That would be one way of killing the virus, if extreme.

BTW Instead of boycotting Stuff until they improve, let's donate so they can afford a spell checker.

Notwithstanding their sloppiness, there are two must-haves for me before I would consider paying any money to Stuff

  • clearly differentiate between news and magazine-type content
  • get rid of Outbrain 'sponsored' links

Funny you mention that.

There's no way a DDoS would cause the power outage - unless obviously targeted at some very specific building control system, which I don't quite think is the problem here...

This from a Stuff article about Waikanae:

“The median age at the town’s centre is 61.”

I know NZ is a young country but I had no idea Waikanae was only founded 61 years ago.

*sigh*

From
https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/wellington/300092952/child-dead-after-accident-in-upper-hutt-playground

Correctly named as Harcourt Park throughout the article, but directly above the "accurate" tag, incorrectly named.

And later on, this marvelous mention of the new self driving fire engines.

In reference to the Christchurch terrorist

The plane was bound for Auckland Prison at Paremoremo where he will spend the rest of his life.

The prisoner may have been bound for the prison, but I doubt the plane could get there.

Sure it could.  May not be usable again afterwards though.  "Runway" is a bit short.

Could have done everybody a favour and just delivered him to the exercise yard from 3000ft.

Unfortunately, our Air Force doesn't have the greatest track record of accurate drops - there's a better than average chance the delivery would end up crashing through a school roof instead...

Stuff has really upped its game on the reading through and checking before publishing with this one:

"The 29-year-old kille was sentenced at the High Court in Christchurch"
