No. The problem is not aeronautical technicalities nor the aviation bureaucracy.

The hard or impossible part is getting past the political and resource consent processes. It is a national and local government issue not a civil aviation issue.

In the case I cited, it was an authority that combined both, whose specialist department consisted of exactly two people. But surely you have that under control in New Zealand at all times. I am pretty sure. Trust me.

To bring the „changes of use“ topic to a close: (at least for me)

You buy a small house in the centre of a town or district. Nice surroundings, occasionally a few tourists, a small, historic church, a bit of organ music and short, a little bit of clerical bell terror on Sunday morning, a few shops - relatively quiet, everything ok.

So now, for reasons of economy, the church decides to "profane" the building, i.e. to take it out of use and sell or rent it out as a very ordinary property. The whole thing becomes a discotheque or nightclub for the wider catchment area. You guessed it ... and now? Move away? Sell again? The church was there for more than 100 years before you came.

As a visitor? Sure. I was in Copenhagen in a restaurant in a former church. 😇 But it doesn't make as much noise as a disco or a techno-barn.

Could happen anywhere. Surely there are noise regulations, parking considerations etc. in your example that would prevent this sort of thing from happening? Up to the neighbours to be aware and complain to the relevant authorities. It hardly bears comparison to the other examples of people buying properties near an existing airport/stadium etc. and then complaining. I don't get your point.

The 2 square centimeter chunk of flesh I've just removed from the end of my middle finger through a moment of inattention with a belt sander.

And me needing to type 2000 words by the end of today to meet a deadline... :(

When we are in a very upmarket short term rental (courtesy of the insurance company and a lack of anything else in the market at the time), but the dishwasher hasn't worked for 2 weeks - the owner is obviously a tightwad and has sent a friend to fix it (several times) and it's still not working.

Just send a professional, once. They'll fix it and we'll all be happy. We've paid the equivalent of $2.5k per week for this place - I'd expect a working dishwasher.

As a thought, and purely to play devil's advocate - if there wasn't a dishwasher, would you expect one to be fitted?

No we wouldn't - but there was one fitted and it's marketed as "Executive Level"  - it's a large home in an affluent suburb and was $17k for 7 weeks...I almost expect there to be a butler for that kind of money.

Valid point, and that would also solve the dishwasher problem too!

They have to repair or replace it.

We're in the same boat - between houses and renting. Got a gem of a rental deal but the place is scheduled to be demolished in late Jan so might not be able to extend the rental... Anyway, despite the house's pending demise the landlord's agent immediately sent a repairman round to check the non functional dishwasher and waste disposer. They were beyond economic repair and replaced with new.
