PolicyGuy:

Geektastic:
I began writing to my parents when I went away to boarding school at the age of seven and a half.

Since we were away 36 weeks a year and had no access to telephones, we were required to write home every Sunday after Chapel.

You're giving me flashbacks, @Geektastic, the PTSD may kick in any time! 😂

Those hours spent sitting at a desk, fountain pen in hand, trying desperately to think how I could fill in the vast expanse of aerogramme - that nearly uncrossable creative desert between "Dear Mummy & Daddy" and "Love from".
The Good Old Days ... not

I loved boarding school myself.

“I hope you are well. I am.

The Colts played Westbrook Hay last week and we won. It was raining.

We are doing volcanoes in Geography at the moment and Mr Collard made a model which erupted. It was fun.

Can we have jam tart when I come home for Half Term?”

Was the sort of nonsense I used to write - I found one of my letters a few years ago when my father died. Cost a whole 7 pence to post, I noted!!

Workloads. This whole mantra of "we care about you" whilst expecting far more from/with less...and then immediately after a restructure, being surprised that the staff satisfaction survey was overwhelmingly negative.

This made me cringe (and nearly puke) more than annoyed.  Someone I know who works for a government agency, working in a team that is quite specialised and currently short-staffed, received this in an email today. (I've anonymised it.)

I know there has been a lot of talk both internally and in the media about the recruitment freeze across [agency name] and I want to confirm what this means for [team name]. While it may initially seem like a setback, I believe that this situation presents us with a unique opportunity to showcase our resilience, creativity, and commitment to success. It is during challenging times like these that our true potential shines through. Although the recruitment freeze may temporarily limit our ability to hire, it also provides us with an opportunity to focus on optimising our existing resources. By leveraging the skills and talents we already possess, we can look to further enhance collaboration, streamline processes, and foster a stronger sense of unity within our team. Furthermore, this freeze encourages us to think outside the box and explore innovative solutions. We have an incredible pool of talent across [team name], and now is the time to tap into it. Additionally, this period allows us to reflect on our current practices and identify further areas for improvement.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

My employer no longer does employee engagement or satisfaction surveys after they were continually surprised that we were not satisfied and that just instructing us to be happier didn't change anything.

How about: we all know we're feeding you poop but if we pretend really hard that it's chocolate, we can all be happy.

That there isn't a super quick, super easy to way to move all the data from 1 SSD to a new SSD and all the data from a 2nd SSD to the 1st SSD.
