Dingbatt: Interestingly the agreement between FIFA and clubs that allows for the release of players for international fixtures expires at the end of July and it seems there is a high level of intransigence among the clubs not to renew it. Sources such as England's Daily Mail newspaper saying it will be the end of the FIFA World Cup as we know it.
A similar thing already happens in rugby where players were held back from the the French tour of Australia and the English tour here to complete club fixtures. Pretty evident that money talks and the rich clubs in Europe hold much greater sway over the governing international bodies than is healthy for the sport.
Compare Germany's result with England's in Brazil, and then look at how many home grown players there are in the Bundesliga compared to the EPL.

In so many ways, the truth must not be allowed to stand in the way of a good (sensationalist) story. Perhaps the most interesting part of the article was in the difference between UEFA and FIFA on 'sharing' the wealth. Football is not alone in this. Rugby and cricket, and I've no doubt, many other international sports probably suffer similar politics.

floydbloke: I’m proud to be a Dutchman today. Commendable 3rd place and didn’t lose a game, beating Spain by 4 and Brazil by 3 in the process. Expectations from the Dutch public in general were certainly a lot lower. I salute van Gaal, some fantastic decisions, even subbing Vorm on in the last three minutes so that all 23 players in the squad got to play in the WC. Man U fans should be pleased.

I do feel very sorry for the Brazilian public though, what a disappointment for them.

Fully agree with your sentiments. I was lucky enough to be in The Netherlands while the match was on, great atmosphere :)

joker97: If you look at the overall performance over the tournament Germany deserved the cup. Argentina had been toothless throughout.

But looking at a single game, it could have been anybody's. But if you don't score you don't win, and Germany scored.
