Has the Herald reformatted their front page or something? I just went there now and it looks all compressed and weird, kinda narrower than it was yesterday.

Also the format of the URL's for their stories has changed too - used to be a series of random numbers but now it looks like this:

Just tried that, no change. This is in Forefox (haven't tried Chrome etc yet).

Yep, same in Chrome. Masses of white space on both sides now, and the main part of the page is kinda elongated into a narrower column on the middle.

Does it look different to anyone else?

It didn't have all this white space when I visited last night!

It seems to be a trend. Here's Ars Technica at 5k:

Looks like crap, really - hardly a good use of screen real estate to have all that unnecessary white space there.

Stuff: https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/asia/300128609/watch-88-injured-in-south-korea-as-fire-rips-through-high-rise-apartment-building

"Some outlets showed footage of the structure engulfed in flames and slabs of burning concrete falling to the street below."

Wow who knew concrete could burn! The stuff attached to it probably will.

From Google:

Unlike wood, concrete does not burn. Unlike steel, it does not soften and bend. Concrete does not break down until it is exposed to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit—far hotter than in the typical house fire. This has been confirmed in “fire-wall” tests.

Suggestion for the Herald, why not just have one story per line? That way, we can spend hours and hours scrolling the page until we reach the end.

I suspect it may have been done to make it more difficult to access Premium content.

The level of dumbing down in this story is truly depressing - as is the thought that there are adults who actually give rise to the story. How do they dress in the morning without help?

It was disappointing to read that the CEO of Flick actually thinks that the electrons travel from the point of generation to the point of consumption. You're making a claim against another company, and you don't have a fundamental grasp of how the product you are selling actually works?

To be fair, he didn't say that. The exact quote from him is "You can’t say X electron, please go to this address… No generator decides where the electricity is going to go.”

There's also an interpretation by the journo that kind of alludes to that, but doesn't really say that either.

I always thought it was smoke going through the wires (/old tech joke).
