I see Trivago is carpet bombing us again. After being fined $45 million by the Australian government for misleading the consumers it drew to its website with a barrage of lying commercials, it went silent for awhile as it hung its head in the sin bin. I guess they think people have short memories and now they are back, annoying as ever. Whether they are any more honest I can't say.

Yes - their ads really make me mad, knowing the history. I see they now have a disclaimer/disclosure on-screen - very small text and it flashes off almost before you’ve had a chance to read it.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

When a company gets done for screwing over its customers, I make a note and never forgive it. Such a business has demonstrated that it is not to be trusted. Trivago is one. Youi is another. Regrettably, there are more.

You must have a very small number of companies you'll buy from then. No supermarkets for you. No dealing with MS, Apple, Google, Samsung.

When you replace an under cupboard rangehood with the same model and the mounting holes have changed location.

(Previous locations would now have two screws protruding into the fan unit within!)

The previous one came with a drilling template etc, the new one doesn't!

Exact same model number?

Actually not. The things I have are old and I didn't spend any money on them. My Apple laptop was inherited and the software keeps complaining that the hardware is too old for updating. The Samsung TV I have (one of several) was given to me. I downloaded Win 10 when it was being given away, upgraded from a free version of 8.1. I have Google disabled. My search engine is Duckduckgo. I can't stand supermarkets so I avoid them as much as possible. Not because they rip me off, I just find them extremely unpleasant places to be. Obviously it isn't possible to avoid all this stuff, but I manage to do fairly well all things considered. It helps that I am downsizing in my old age and don't have much need for the latest gimmicks any longer. You would be surprised how well one can live with very little.

Model numbers don't mean a thing. I have had completely incompatible televisions with identical model numbers.

Indeed. I was happy with my keyboard on one machine so I bought another of the same model number, only to find that they'd removed one of the keys.

Oh right, the new 'improved' model I do presume.

Yes!

Same physical size, lots of other changes. Like an actually sealed unit for the speed and lamp switches - now push buttons instead of slide ones, motors etc different.)

I am really annoyed by news media sites that say they will tell me 'what you need to know'. How do they know what I need? This incredibly arrogant, presumptive assertion not only implies they have special understanding of my needs, but are even prepared to decide on my behalf what they think I don't need to know. What a load of self-important shit!

Talking of news media sites, I just find it annoying they have this strange desire to put '5 minutes to read' below the title.

Or others that tell you about the headline in more detail (which is kind of the idea) and then insist on adding tons of background about other things related to the subject of the article they reported on previously. Bored enough to read the latest on Trump, expect the second half of the article to summarise all the articles and charges they've already reported about.

Actually, a newsletter I subscribe to does this for all it's sections and I really like it. It's a tips and tricks magazine and they even tell you how long it will take to do the tip thing.
