Oh, Mr Cookie just bought a Stanley stud finder last week.

I've just waved it over him and it did nothing.

Figures.

Presuming it is a magnetic one, did you have it set on ‘nail’ or ‘screw’?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The ridiculous amount of faffing around you have to do with Grandstream phones to get any information on what's going wrong. There's no error log or messages, you have to set up an invalid syslog server to give it something to not report problems to, tell it to dump SIP traffic to the syslog it's not generating, then run a packet capture, save that to disk, and pick what went wrong out of that with Wireshark.

As opposed to, you know, looking at a log that says "this error was encountered".

That I was busy burning valentines dinner and there was enough smoke to smother an elephant but the smoke alarms didn’t come on until you could barely see through the swirling haze. Only then do two alarms start deafening screaming probably at the sight of the spluttering pan up in flames because I shook it while it was spluttering and then had to find the broom to stop the alarms.

Salmon Flambé with blackened garlic courgettes anyone.

Something that really annoys me: Auckland traffic. I know I am causing a small fraction of that traffic by being in it. But it's frustrating that it gets worse year after year (there were small reprieves after the opening of the western ring and then covid) and nothing is being done about improving public transport.

I wouldn't say nothing is being done ... e.g. the Western Express bus service is an improvement in terms of frequency and reliability for many.

BUT ...

  • unfortunately on parts of the motorway it still gets stuck in the same traffic
  • already yesterday buses were leaving the Te Atatu stop into the city and having to leave people waiting for the next one, and it's not even "March madness" yet. Sure another bus comes along soon enough, but not ideal.

There is a lot more that could be done and a lot more that needs to be done.

It's going to get worse in the next couple of weeks too - Universities will return and "March Madness" will descend upon the public transport network, at which point every excuse under the sun will be trundled out by AT.

Someone threw a old DUAL record player with built in amp on the beach access road near where I live. Bit more speced than my DUAL 1218 which is just a record player. Quite a few dials on the front.

Was tempted to pick it up. But was quite busted up (wood smashed) and the tonearm looked beyond repair. Real shame. I love old tech.

The fact that someone threw anything on the beach access road annoys me.

Yeah that too! You know, you have a great day at the beach, so why leave your takeaways outside your door! But generally at my beach I don't see fly tipping which is great. Unlike rural Mosgiel and Dunedin tramping location.

I used to have great Aramex delivery driver (Rare I know!) who delivered at around 6.40am.

I am near to their depot, yet the new driver I apparently have, has had the parcel for me in their van since yesterday.

I queried (Aramex Office) delivery 2 hours ago, and still no parcel or call back!!!

Yet another delivery from Australia 4 days earlier than a parcel delivered within Auckland (12KM's away).

I watch a fair bit of Ozzie TV, especially SBS. What increasingly annoys me is the breathy commercials pleading for money for abused animals or deprived children, complete with videos lovingly detailing their unhappy conditions as the children gaze with big eyes and the animals pace at the end of short chains. These blatantly transparent attempts to manipulate people's emotions, instead of just stating their case, make me very suspicious about the motives of those doing the advertising. Sad children and tigers and bears may make people want to give, but how much of that actually goes to the causes being promoted? I imagine the bare minimum necessary to stay just inside the law. These so-called 'charities' belong in the cage with those anguished bears! Or even better, within range of the very upset tigers!
