I read someone's "suggestion" a few months back: "if you don't indicate, the steering wheel won't turn".

It wouldn't work for emergencies and other situations, but that's the sentiment.

Already have that on some cars almost with their crap lane keep assist which fights you if you dont indicate.

Ever wonder why people indicate to go around a car turning left into a driveway - yup, they have not turned off the worst feature kia ever made.

The first thing I do after starting the car is turn off that and the auto stop start. That's for two systems that actually work quite well particularly the auto stop start. Both can interfere at times when you don't need them.

In a similar vein when following those lazy drivers using active cruise control in moderate to heavy traffic sitting in the right hand lane. The active cruise control creates a large gap which drivers in the left lane see so inviting that they keep moving into the gap thus, car by car, bit by bit, impede the progress of everyone following the car using active cruise control.

As each car hops into the gap the car with active cruise control slows down for a few seconds to re create the gap, thus also the speed of that lane keeps changing more than necessary.

Ever heard of the 2 second rule?  2 seconds at 80kph is 44m, so if you think you're driving anywhere near safely by being so close to the car in front that nobody can pull in the gap, then maybe it's time to think again about how you drive.  Interesting how you blame the drivers who drive at a safe following distance for congestion, instead of those special people who have to weave between lanes and tailgate in order to win a few more places in the great motorway race

Yes, but the annoying thing is that to get more stars from ncap etc they make them revert to on again constantly, and for start stop that has to re enable to count for the BS efficiency scores.

I bet that they have tested start stop and found that the constant asking for max power from an engine that is still building oil pressure only causes problems outside of the warranty period so is a benefit to the car companies when they all start dying and needing replacement.

All of this crap is box ticking to satisfy bureaucrats and not good for the car owners. That's why if you have something simple like an older diesel with no DPF, simple port injection petrol cars etc you better keep them on the road because whatever smart stuff comes out to get that extra 0.1km/100l and one more star on someones checklist for things that don't matter to you will have it go wrong and be financially written off.

That takes into account human driver reaction time and vintage car grade brakes. Adaptive cruise and post 1980 brakes and tyres should be able to do a lot better.

If I have autosteer and adaptive cruise on in the tesla I am constantly having to press the accelerator to make it drive like every other driver on the road, otherwise I end up with people piling in in front of me

It's the same as adding 'Professional' to your product name. Wow, it's better just with that.

I generally take that to mean that it should only be sold to people that know what they are doing already.

Chromefox's idiotic habit of refusing to download PDFs if they're on a non-TLS link but instead silently failing until you wonder why it's taking so long and open the download window to see "File not downloaded, potential security risk". An awful lot of tech manuals and the like are served over non-TLS connections, but apparently downloading a public repair manual for a thirty-year-old device can only be done over an encrypted link.

(I know about dom.block_download_insecure but it's a dumb thing to have enabled by default).

The Pizza Hut website saying "valid email address required" and refusing to continue after I entered my valid email address. It has a so-called special character in it, but that doesn't make it invalid!

Ha ! I've had a similar annoyance with passwords. Along the lines of 'you need to use a punctuation character in your password' but then rejecting your password because you picked a punctuation character that's on the excluded list.

Your comment doesn't apply. No problem here with the 2 second rule.

I'm not talking about when travelling at anything close to 80 km. More like less than 50 km/hr.

Coutts took a calculated business risk moving the event to Lyttelton Harbour. Gambled and lost. Now he's blaming everything and everyone. Very very unpleasant.
NZHerald: Otago University zoology professor emeritus Liz Slooten told RNZ it was normal for Hector’s dolphins to be around the harbour at this time of year and having a race delayed was “totally predictable”. “They already said, ‘look, if you absolutely must do it in Lyttelton Harbour then you should do it in the middle of winter’.”

I use active cruise control every day in Auckland traffic on the motorway. On the closest setting at under 50km/h there is not enough room for anyone to safely pull in front of me. The people you talk of must have it set to the furthest setting from the car they are following for what you describe.

Finding out LG are making a ~100" OLED screen, something I've been waiting for, for a while now, which wasn't confirmed at CES, and then finding out it's going to RRP for $25K USD, which means it will be about 60K here!
