When people get all angry, personal and abusive about unremarkable posts in a discussion forum.
To add to my already considerable irritation today, we get an email proudly stating that the leadership team is being added to (so they can work together on the strategy) - meanwhile the dust has barely settled on the poor souls who were all made redundant in the last round of restructures. But only frontline staff were affected, thankfully. No management was harmed in the making of this mockumentary.

Here is an unremarkable post: Every cyclist that replaces a car makes an enormous contribution to the well-being of every other road user. Yet the only thing the lead-footed seem to see is that they wear lycra, get in the way and slow things down. How can that be?

Sigh. Its so annoying when people drag common sense into things

Never mind that fuel taxes and RUC charges are to compensate the damage done by motorised vehicles, which isn't an issue with cycles. This is the annoy thread. Brainless clichés about cyclists annoy me.

Cycle phobia is the current pandemic in Aotearoa
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

LOL. Hardly. The amount of resources assigned to the relatively small number of cyclists in NZ is beyond the pale.
Name another country where a BUSY car lane, is removed in favour of the 6 cyclists who use it a day.

The MediaWorks data breach on RNZ. Oh look, there is a picture of someone in a hoody at a computer. He must be a BAD GUY because only bad guys wear hoodies. Thanks RNZ. The next time I meet a scammer I will look to see if he is wearing a hoody (it is always a he; women obviously don't know how to hack and they never wear hoodies!)
The average hacker/scammer is often undistinguishable from Bob from Accounts. But pics of Bob from Accounts don't attract clicks, pics of hooded hackers do. And it paints a distorted picture (pun intended) in the public mind.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

It must cool to have the time to sit day after day and count the cycles using a cycle lane.
Maybe Fremulon can treat this phobia but I'm not a doctor.

An excessive degree of hypersensitivity, literalism and hyperbole in posts.

It's like some politician went on a taxpayer-funded fact-finding junk^H^H^H^Htrip to somewhere like Amsterdam or Copenhagen and said "hey, we can do that here too!", ignoring the fact that both of those cities are flat and level with straight roads and set up more or less from the start for pedestrian and cycle traffic rather than hilly with roads winding all over the place and set up from the start for cars.
Like Brexit, I wonder when someone's finally going to be brave enough to say "well, that didn't work".
(Nothing against cycling or cyclists, it's just that many of NZ's cities really, really aren't suited for them).
