The challenge for me, is it's really the only sport I enjoy playing, and without excercise, like most people, I suffer mentally. This particular injury means I can't even swim. It will pass, but it seems like I am never 100% pain free, or injury free these days.

I am also never pain free and partly for that reason I don't exercise at all, though I do still perform maintenance jobs around the house and property to the extent I am able. You have my sympathy though. Constant pain really sucks. I hope you get better soon.

I will inflame this enough to get people to create a new topic in the Transport sub-forum: Why is the right at war with cyclists? We’re not ‘wokerati’ – we’re just trying to get around | Zoe Williams | The Guardian

Yeah, but its Zoe Williams,

She got upset and wrote a ranty column  when her Son came home from school and said "Thatcher was Ok" because she shut down the coal mines,  helping the UK lower its carbon footprint....

I sincerely hope your recovery is quick and robust. Sport or any physical activity is vital to our wellbeing both physical and mental. Take care.

Maybe a thread should be created to cover and support cycle phobia.

Phobia LOL, but the discussion should be moved so as not to derail the thread, we want to be able to rant in short bursts :)

Short Rant. That the Mayor in Welli groin ( I have purposely left what Wellington is constantly changed to by spellcheck) is getting rid of carparks in Cuba Street to widen the footpath because they just realised that once a year when the Cuba St festival is on there’s not enough room on the footpath for the crowds. Just fix the pipes first please.

No cycle phobia here, just common sense and practicalities that aren’t aligned to left or right leanings but rather to the desire for inclusiveness of the older generation and disabled in city planning for parking and transport to support independence.

Squash is a great sport but not the easiest on the knees I found.

I play a lot of golf. I walk and carry my bag and it's keeping me in good stead with no niggles and a good enough degree of fitness to walk the somewhat feared Humpridge Track with no problems other than soreness for a couple of days after.

Certainly not ideal and can be soul destroying. I finally gave up rugby after a series of injuries when I was young. I recall getting injured every time I played squash, could never see that black hypersonic projectile.

After playing A LOT as a junior, I returned to squash as an adult - I was C2 on the cusp of C1 about 7 or so years ago.
Blew my Achilles, not a tear - but full rupture. Have only played 1 game since.

Just change companies. I do not understand loyalty to businesses. Its almost as absurd as all those PlayStation and Xbox fanboys.

In my case it's laziness rather than loyalty, as I'll need to make some changes for the new provider.

PlayStation vs Xbox is a bit different because they run different software.

Another squash related injury that will probably have me out 6 weeks, right before the season starts after a 2.5 month break!

Gutting, not even taking into account the pain!

I remember how devastated I was when I was told to stop playing football (soccer). I sat in car and cried a bit. Not how I wanted to retire frfom a sport I'd played for over 40 years on and off.
But...that's how I ended up rediscovering Mountain Biking. And it's now my obsession.
Silver linings and all of that nonsense.

When you lower your TV bracket, fill & sand old holes, and repaint the wall; to then find that some of the AV cables that feed through the wall are now 2cm too short to reach the ports on the re-hung TV.

Sorry to hear but look on the bright side. You could join another sport for the times you are made infirm by Squash. Consider Croquet or Boules, bowling. Not as cool sounding as Squash but gets you some camaraderie and out of the house if that’s the objective.

Welli groin …

… is a painful abrasive affliction you get when your gumboots are too tall and your legs are too short.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Funnily enough I've just started using a carry bag a little bit. I have two sets and travel a lot for work. So much easier to fly or pack my car with a carry bag. That said, it was too much golf that put paid to the carry bag in the first place. Heard a rather large crack at the top of my backswing, then tremendous pain on the way down. Broke a bit of bone off and it jammed in the elbow joint. Too much golf and cricket and it wore out.

So I've used a push buggy and then last few years a full electric trundler which is brilliant.

I have tried various other sports, racquet sports 'speak' to me. This is an right elbow injury, fairly limiting.

It's a hard sport on all joints really, and weight is a factor when it comes to wear and tear on them. Life can be a challenge sometimes.
