Something that really annoys the snot out of me, two driving habits that are closely related.

  1. Drivers not having good spatial awareness. You see this is double passing lanes on corners. Cars cross the double yellow line and I have to swerve to avoid!
  2. Cars that turn right to turn left!!! FFS learn to drive. You do not need to half pull in next lane to turn left. Cars have power steering these days.

I've seen cars swing to the LEFT in order to turn RIGHT! Riddle me that?!

Or as a friend of mine puts it "drivers who have no idea how wide their car is". There's an awful lot of those around, which you really notice when you drive down a road parked solid with cars on both sides. Speaking of things that annoy, when did it become accepted practice to leave all of your cars on the road? A cursory search of images of NZ suburbs in the 1980s shows streets that aren't choked with parked cars, when did it change?

When Japanese imports lowered the cost of cars

When both people in a household needed to work to get ahead and needed 2 cars

When employment laws changed so that more families always have one person at work 7 days a week

Four-bedroom homes with only a double garage, and usually a reasonably small one at that.

Where do you park the kid's cars? On the street of course!

It was quite likely the legalisation of used Japanese imports in the late 1980s. Before then, the majority of cars in NZ were locally assembled.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

most of these modern houses dont have much storage space in them, so where do people store stuff? in the garage, where does the car go? on the street. so maybe one of the 2 cars in the garage. or if its an intergenerational house, which are a lot more common there could be 2-4 cars.

A lot of the newer developments around here dont even have garages, and you get a single car park near your house, they also have little storage in them, so i dont know what they do with all their stuff.

Update on my annoyance: roadworks company are here this morning bright and early.

But they’re just here to collect their cones and signs.

I asked one of them what was going on. His answer was he just works for the company and goes where they tell him to go.

In the 1980s it was very common for a family to only have one car. It was also in the 1980s that infill housing really started to take off.

If you add more than 25% more houses and each of those houses goes from 1-2 cars to 2-3 cars it fills up very quickly.

News articles titled to indicate they are going to tell you something specific and definitive, and the article contains all manner of skirting around the issue, and the conclusion contains nothing definitive or specific, usually because it's not finalized yet!

The gigantic White Tail that decided my wheelchair cushion was a good place to ambush me. Big mistake, once underwear was changed I opened Armageddon on it.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

That everything is on sale this weekend, except what I want to buy (it's also on sale, but barely worth considering as a discount).
