neb: Don't they also significantly degrade the image if you export it to a non-Apple format? Friend of mine sent me a photo that looked awful at 100% and while trying to figure it out read some blog post somewhere about them degrading the image when you go from HEIC to JPG:That's the cleaner portion, other parts look like they've been put through some paintbrush "artistic effect" filter with JPEG-artefact blurring thrown in for good measure.
Yes, they recompress with pretty agressive compression on them and people can choose a size when they share and it seems that even the big option is not very big.
The thing is that the cameras can do a hell of a lot better than these legacy image formats will take, so they had to use a newer one. Its just the motion crap that they seem to love to take with the photo that annoys me because I have no use for that.
