Bung: The Google inserted ads are one thing but increasingly the content creators are plugging things inside their videos.
Of the few I watch that do that, pretty much all of them timecode their videos so you just click to skip the sponsorship bit.
rb99:There's some quite decent stuff on TVNZ as well.
Our TVNZ? The one that's broadcast in NZ, to the public?

Yep. Well I think so anyway - two Star Treks, The Bay, The Capture, The Tourist, Mr Bates vs the Post Office, Boiling Point, Elementary...
Well OK, thats On Demand, but its still TVNZ.

Ah, fair enough. The only TV I get exposed to is from visiting friends and neighbours, and apart from Repair Shop it's pretty dire, quiz shows and reality stuff and whatnot.
Quite like the Repair Shop, especially one recently where they tarted up a foot powered Singer sowing machine, exactly the same as my mum had. Really made me wish it had passed on to us.
Of course you'd die of old age before you found a channel that doesn't have a decent quota of dire stuff...

Kyanar:
Is that even legal? I though one of the basic tenets of contract law is that one party cannot unilaterally make material changes to the contract without giving the other party the opportunity to reject the terms (i.e. if you don't agree with the amended terms, you would potentially refinance out without penalty).
I would tend to agree, does the OP feel like lodging a complaint with the banking ombudsman (there may be a step required before this perhaps)? I'd very much like to see that tested.

@Kyanar - I have no idea, but it certainly doesn't read very well. No wonder so many opinions of them are rather poor.
@networkn - If I had the time, I would like to be that guy, but unfortunately, I don't.

Just in NZ, or globally?

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Globally, though even I've got better things to do...

And the constant reminder to "Like, click notification bell and subscribe"!
What annoys me is people who don't understand that this is the way content creators make their money. Subscribers and likes. That content you are consuming isn't free to create, their reward is your like and subscribe. Small price to pay to hear it, given it probably makes up about 0.1% of the video you otherwise watched for free.
It's the same as the sites who run ads to support their sites if people don't subscribe. It's not a zero cost operation, the last you can do is watch some ads. Or, you know.. Subscribe!

I understand the suggestion algorithm appreciates a few likes here and there too. I subscribe to a few (20?) channels of worthy content but I never 'click the bell icon' for notifications cos I don't want the spam. But for a casual video I have come across - nah - it's very unlikely I am EVER going to subscribe to your channel.
