Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

And on this... People who walk out of a retail store into the footpath without looking to each side or at least to the side closest to the door. You wouldn't do this when driving, so why do when walking? And yes, people who leave the lifts and stop just after a step to say "Oh, hello" to someone waiting to board, blocking everyone from getting in or out.
And then there are the people who wander along looking at their cell phone instead of where they are going.
An immediate family member (teenager) does this and believes it's OK as their generation has superior peripheral awareness, relative to older generations.
I thought this was a theory (hubris) worth testing, so one day I hung back as we were all walking somewhere and observed.
I concluded that if anything: -
- While looking at phone and walking the subject seemed to have worse peripheral awareness than other pedestrians.
- Collisions were avoided only due to the sterling evasive action taken by pedestrians who are looking where they are going.
- When asked how many people had to take evasive action, the subject confidently estimated none. Actually it was >20 in a few blocks on a quiet day.
To sum up: It's like when your Granny thinks she is a great driver, because she is blissfully ignorant of the chaos she leaves in her wake.

When you see people doing that just brace yourself and walk into them. A few times and they might just think to be aware.
