Gah! So I won an iPad Mini on eBay, sent it to YouShop USA as usual.
Only to then be informed by them it is a prohibited item?!?! What on earth is going on here.... it is not listed as that anywhere:
https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop/shopping-with-your-youshop-address/dangerous-prohibited-items
It's because of the battery.
I've ordered plenty of damaged / parts Notebooks and Tablets via Youshop over the past couple of years without issue - but in the last couple of months they have denied anything that's not in a sealed factory box.
Even things in an offical 'refurbished' packaging have been denied.
I'm guessing the Airlines have come down hard on OIA (The freight forwarder that YouShop uses) so they have drawn a very conservative line in the sand.
Used youshop for the first time last month to get some shaving equipment that wouldn't ship to nz
Found it to be fantastic!
timmmay: Bugger. Use yousendit.

YouSendIt? Don't think that is what you mean.
What service should I use instead of YouShop?
My bad. I meant Ship It To. I've used them once, much much better setup / service than youshop, but it costs more. USPS isn't too bad, but they have heaps of delivery options. Youshop is cheap and pretty reliable.

dman:
How much more were they?
Ship It To Calculator. From memory a small package was a bit more than youshop. Here's an current example:
5x5x5cm 1kg package USA to NZ. US$28 USPS airmail, US$45 FedEx economy, US$53 DHL express.
Another, 15 x 20 x 30CM (about shoe box size), US$49 USPS airmail, US$52 Fedex economy, US$68 DHL express.
I was going to do a direct comparison with my last youshop package, but NZPost seem to have forgotten the 20 or more parcels I've sent via them - my youshop control panel is empty. That's probably for the best, they have a few packages in an inconsistent state, still in transit 1-2 years after they arrived.

My experiences with YouShop are generally good, except:
1. They spammed me today about Amazon Prime, despite my profile settings saying I didn't want it.
and more importantly
2. The change the declared value of items that I ship through them. This has happened to me with a couple of parcels so far. I'll fill in the value in UKP and when it gets to NZ it has a value + ~50UKP on top of it. And then NZPost sting you $50 on top of all that just to pay the duty for you. Ima changing.
Once they've ship the item to a youshop address ,How does youshop know where to send the parcel to NZ?Does it ask you once the parcel arrives?
when you sign up to use youshop, you are given a unique and personal suite number at their delivery address in Portland. At the time you sign up, you should have given them a NZ delivery address. Pretty sure you can change that when you checkout as well.
Another useful features is, if the shipping company forgets to put your Youshop code on the package (usually it's a Suite #) then Youshop also records the US tracking number. So if your package hasn't shown up in your account because your Youshop number wasn't on the label, you can often ask them to look up the US tracking number (USPS, UPS, Fedex etc.) and they can locate the package that way.
Apart from used device with batteries, it's the best reshipping service available.

I would value the pictures and consolodation and de-consolodaion options that shipito have over youshops cheapness most of the time.
They will even open up a game and get you a picture of the steam code if you ask them. Very usefull to get playing special editions of games quickly ;) And then since the code isnt worth anything, the resulting physical goods are worth less than you paid for them so come in under the duty amount.
can you have multiple items from different place sent to the same youshop address and then combine it for it to be shipped to NZ?
