They did it by creating a closed system and overcharging everyone.
Apple are not forcing anyone to buy their products. If people don’t like their closed system and perceive that they’re overcharging, there are good alternative products they can buy.

the last post wasn't defensive, it was just stating a fact.

I stated a simple fact no-one disputes. How is that aggressive?

It’s not a fact - it’s just your opinion. And obviously people do dispute it.
To paraphrase your earlier post: Some Apple haters here. Why so bitter?

Apple locks customers into its closed system with proprietary accessories and connectors. That is a simple undisputed fact. The European Union is now forcing Apple to adopt standardised connectors. It wouldn't have to if this was not an issue. What I stated here is fact, not opinion. Look it up.
Apple accessories and cables are more expensive than comparable non-Apple equivalents. Another fact even Apple users cannot dispute. These things are simply true. The fact I pointed them out has nothing to do with hatred or bitterness. I even possess an Apple laptop I inherited. It works fine as an email computer.

I am not an Apple Fan, but I will say that ONE of the reasons Apple accessories are more expensive, is because they are 'certified' to work. I love my Android stuff, but the number of times I have bought a cable or device and found it not working as well as I'd expect (lower charging or transfer rates) or some weird other issue is moderately high. I'd reasonably happily pay an extra couple of dollars to know it works as intended. (I do know Apple Products are more than a couple of dollars more expensive).

Apple had their connectors before other connectors with similar performance/features were available. Rather than locked in, those that had bought were supported for much longer. and I gorgets how many "standard" connectors for other phone brands there are. For our blind staff member the iPhone connector was a godsend.
USB1 languished until Apple adopted it for their iMacs, and Windows support for USB was years behind, everyone was keeping to "Standards" . The USB-C connector is an F mess with all sorts of different "standards" there are, Charging only, USB3.1, USB 4, Thunderbolt, and even some early phoned use the connector for USB2 to phones, and the marking of them as to what they were was poor (Apple guilty of this too). Support for bluetooth / wifi built into desktops/laptops was ahead of windows.
Go check out what the android phone was going to be before the iPhone.
Some of Apples choices for cable material were however complete garbage, they rotted due to the oils etc on the fingers.
I am pleased that Apple has gone back to the magnet charging port, it has save my old laptop in the last when the dogs are racing around and catch the cable.
OS updates/support for hardware is typically longer than for android, and OSX upgrades have been free, in fact since the Mac came out there was only a short period where you had pay for upgrades.
Yep, there are something Apple gets wrong, but there are a lot of things Apple gets very very right.
I am not an Apple fan but I don't hate it either. When I had to choose my first serious computer, I almost went for an Apple II but I was pressed for pennies and the CP/M Kaypro met my budget. From there I more or less 'naturally' followed developments to MS-DOS and eventually Windows. During the early days there was fierce rivalry between Microsoft and Apple and Apple hardware and software were unquestionably vastly superior by every conceivable metric (except cost, of course). But Windows got better over time, Apple switched processors, and the big differences became less and less.
These days I find Windows easier to use and the software I use on the Apple is all Windows-based. It is familiar and doesn't present me with cryptic mysteries every time I want to just perform a simple function. I am of course speaking exclusively about the computers and operating systems. I have no experience of the iphone.
Unless you have specific needs, it is mostly a matter of taste. Like most people, I prefer what I am used to and comfortable with. I started this sub-topic with a simple statement, which is that Apple is a closed system and expensive. I wasn't making a value judgement, though Apple defenders seemed quick to assume that, but I was stating what I believe to be a simple fact. However, I see from BBC that Apple has also been introducing standardised charging ports in some of its computers. Times change and things move on.

That isn’t what you said and you were absolutely making a value judgement.
You said overcharged not expensive. That is clearly a value judgement.
Ok I made a value judgement. Do you really have nothing better to do?

Some thing small that annoys me is people relitigating the Apple/Android wars, that to my knowledge, petered out at least 5 years ago.
