sir1963:
For those of us of a certain age, glass soft drink bottles had the deposit (and in Australia in some states they still do).
In the 90s there was a "Lucky Can" machine at the BP station that gave you a chance to win a prize for every can you recycled.
Coming from Europe I have never understood how the supermarkets got away with removing glass bottle deposits here. A lot of store managers must have enjoyed a lot of free holidays for that one.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos

It only worked with whole cans and as most people would crush them before bagging them it was not that much use.
Well, we knew we were going to use it so we didn't crush them :)
Glass is also an issue.
Glasses you drink from are not recyclable , neither is window glass and other forms of glass.
Oh, good grief. I was just looking at the local council's site and it says you can recycle plastic 1/2/5, but not plastic bags "even if graded 1, 2 or 5". These rules are doing my head in.
Edit: The "no bags" rule is relatively recent: it was not there when the Wayback Machine fetched the site on the 6th of May.
The fact that every time you power off some IT gear to move it, connect new stuff, whatever, something breaks. In this case it was an NVR, power off, move it down a few racks, power it on again and it starts beeping an alarm. After some digging it turns out there's some problem with the SSD, probably that the Reported Uncorrect count is 2, or at least that's the only slightly abnormal thing I could see. Not a big deal, it must have been like that for awhile and since it represents a few milliseconds of throwaway video recording lost it really doesn't matter much.
And this is where Annoy #2 comes in: The only way to deal with it is to disable all warnings for storage media. Including serious ones that you do need to worry about.
Reinstalling Apps on my new Mac.
I had used a Time Machine backup of my old X86 based laptop to shift everything to my new M3 based laptop
Some of the Apps had to be reinstalled as the App installers had only put in x86 copies (and I could still use them with Rosetta...but!)
But nice, shiny, new, fast .
And of course my virtualisation software is DOA, if I need to run Windows I need the ARM64 variant (and hope some of the Apps I used for my Logic Analyser, EPROM programmer, etc still work)

It eventually got removed after too many accidents & malfunctions.
"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover
"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell
Another grizzle about price hikes. This time, dental checkups.
Jan 2022: $80
Mar 2023: $125
Nov 2023: $130
Jun 2024: $140
That's a 75% increase in 29 months.
Checkups. I had some issues in 2022 so was on 6-monthly checkups, but given that I've just had two good ones in a row I'm going to switch back to a year since it's so expensive!

And for a while in Wellington we had the "no meat trays even if they are a 1" rule. Once they'd been rinsed and left on the bench, how did you remember whether they held meat or donuts?
