allan: And for a while in Wellington we had the "no meat trays even if they are a 1" rule. Once they'd been rinsed and left on the bench, how did you remember whether they held meat or donuts?

Maybe it's a case of asking the meat tray whether it self-identifies as a donut tray?

Seriously though, is there anything other than meat that's held in those mesh-base trays?

MadEngineer: Dear helpline, here’s an issue we’re having, please find screenshot below

Thanks for the screenshot, can you try flushing your browser cache?

I’ve flushed my browser cache, here are more examples

Thanks for the examples. Can we have a video of it?

Here’s a video

Thanks for the video. Can we have a screenshot of x y and z?

Here’s the screenshots.

Thanks for the screenshots. Can we have a copy of the logs?

WHY COULDN’T THEY HAVE ASKED FOR ALL THAT ON THE FIRST RESPONSE

Because that would be far less effective at fobbing you off.

Running into weird boot problems with an Odroid H4 where it boots the first time, then after you change the BIOS config in any way it hangs on boot until you reset the config by pulling the battery.

Turns out the H4, unlike every other embedded dev board ever, requires that you press a PCB mount button on the edge of the board to get it to start.  However the symptoms are identical to a million other problems, firmware issue, boot media issue, RAM timing issue, etc that it was the last thing I thought of.

Getting an email today letting me know my various Spark bills will be increasing again.

No change in service. Just going to charge more for the same thing. Wish I could do that.

Receiving an email from "Paypal" stating that my order has been confirmed for the Apple iPhone 15 Pro that I have not ordered.

And an invoice for $989.99 attached.

It's all quite convincing until you read the email text:
"The distinctive emblem, bill number and purchase date are testaments to our meticulous record-keeping. Each acquisition acts as a catalyst for transformation as you explore our digital sanctuary."

Good lord, Linda. What are you on about? Oh yeah - the email is from "Linda".

Because people have been told not to click links in emails, the latest versions of this scam just has a "Support number". In a couple of case the "NZ Support number" is a hijacked VoIP account that is redirected to some country where scammers are mostly out of reach. They will ask you to "confirm" your credit card number to cancel the order.

That's very annoying.
I hate the idea that someone less clued-up could get caught by this without realising just what they are getting into.

Lots of typos and non-Latin characters are another red flag, and most of those messages are spam-trapped. A few do slip through though, so it still pays to be vigilant.

When does it cross the dividing line between inflation & greedflation?

It's a genuinely competitive Broadband market between the ISPs - I doubt they are making a lot of money. Chorus on the other hand is a monopoly and increases for  broadband are usually ISP pass-ons from Chorus.

When it becomes a cartel of 2 suppliers that seem to both be doing the same thing but investigations into them are all 🤷‍♂️ nothing we can do about it.

I remember reading a Q&A with someone from an ISP a few years ago, and one of the questions was about haggling. The guy from the ISP claimed that a very small percentage of customers haggle, and there was either an implication or outright statement that haggling gets you a better deal.

I tried to haggle with Voyager a few months ago and they did offer me a discount, although not to the same extent that I'd save by switching to Quic (which I ended up doing). It took a couple of attempts though: the first time I asked what they could offer me, they just sent me a copy of the price list 🤦‍♂️

They often discount to lock you into a term plan.
