Is that just home, not including contents? We just got a quote on ~105M2 home for ~$1,550 with AMI.

geoffwnz:

Wouldn't it be the 27th July here since that's how time zones work?  We're ahead of the US.

For movies it's the other way around: they're typically released on Thursdays here, but Fridays in the US. NZ general release date for D&W is the 25th.

The number of people who don't understand the difference between a drop in the rate of inflation, vs a deflation.

Even worse are kids these days who just can't tell their gravity from their rotating frame of reference.

Yes, that is entirely a kids problem. (Whistles innocently whilst slinking away).  :)

A stupid article that refers to the consequences of a cyber attack was that staff had to go back to using pen and paper 'like animals'.

The Levin & Palmerston North Focal Point theatre web site shows start date 25th under a poster showing 26th with bookings opening for 24th.

neb: Having to buy DC power cable (red/black 224020 / 18 AWG / 0.75mm) from element14 because it's the only way you know you're not getting CCA garbage.  Seriously, try finding this in NZ, for general sale (not trade-only call us for pricing) where it's actually copper and not CCA or most probably CCA based on the price.

Partially converted into a smile-forum post: Finding at the same Bunnings that had the cheap 4Ah batteries a partial spool of 224020 in the remainders bin that they let me have for $5 because no-one knew what it was or how to price it.  It's probably only about 5-8m but it's old enough to be non-CCA (the $5 was a fair price since I didn't know whether it was CCA or exactly how much was still left).

Cinema chains spending on advertising for movies that don't release for a month, takes me to their site, and I find out that I can't see it yet.

The press's ongoing inability to notice, that the domestic portion of the new combined terminal at Auckland Airport is for jet aircraft only. For those flying to or from the provinces, it will still be the same crappy old terminal that is currently in use and will presumably still require a walk in the rain, or a bus to get between the two.

Vendor asking for my public IP address. I get about four digits out and then he interrupts and tells me to go to an IP address lookup site. I try to read out the address a second time and get interrupted again.

I bet this wouldn't have happened if our assigned /24 wasn't in the 192.x.x.x range, but evidently he had it in his head that every single address in that range must be private.

I would have asked him to humour you for a second and watch for something that will blow his mind when he runs a tracert to the ip you’re trying to read out.

At the check out they ask “do you want a receipt” and you say no, but their cash register still prints one out and they scrunch it up and throw it in the bin.

The point of me saying no is my “little bit” for the environment.

Surely it would just take a very small line of code: yes or no for the till operator.

🤬

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I take my receipt every time unless I'm buying just one item. You can pay with your phone can't get an NFC receipt to your phone it's all a bit silly.

Anyway, taking things out of the trolley and putting them all back in again and then taking that to the car and taking them all back out again and then when you get home.. From an advanced alien civilization point of view I'm sure it all looks very very silly.

I'm aware Bezos tried one way to fix this and failed. Then he decided to going to outer space was actually easier.
