I landed a consolidated shipment this morning......it took three days to get here......there was no consignment fee added....yes, I had to upload my ebay/paypal purchase/receipt into youshop, but that's the only difference from before....other than paying the GST....

"A new $55 + GST just because we can fee"

I don't think so, this fee has been around in different disguises from Youshop, I posted about this quite some time ago, they set up a separate company within themselves and called it sendit, a complete nightmare to deal with, had all sorts of add-on's, this of course was for parcels that were over the $400 threshold at the time.

"why is this fee applied on a $401 item but not a $399 one?"

We'll remember the fees for anything over the $400nz threshold by Youshop, well here's one they decided to keep!

I'm not a customs dude, but

https://www.customs.govt.nz/about-us/news/important-notices/new-gst-rules-for-low-value-imported-goods/

"... NZ$1000 or less can be cleared on an Inward Cargo Report (ICR), a Simplified Import Declaration (SID) or a standard Import Declaration."

Scroll down and we see that if an SID is used it does not require the tarriff numbers that Youshop is charging you people $55 to write down.

That's terrible, I thought one very very small benefit of bringing these new GST laws is that at least would no longer matter if I order an item just under or slightly over NZ$400

I guess I still need to be careful leaning towards buying only items *under* NZ$400 otherwise we get stung with a massive whooping big "tax" on top of the normal taxes! Yikes. Arrrrgh

Anyway, I've got a question, I purchased an item from a friend in American and sent it to my YouShop address.

YouShop is now asking for an invoice that it needs?? I hadn't seen this requirement before to upload an invoice document.

But of course I don't have an "invoice" for what was just a small casual purchase from a friend!! How on earth am I meant to get YouShop to approve this then??

Man, YouShop just seems to get worse and worse each year. (and of course our current government is partially to blame too, passing this dumb new law)

Forwarders are required to collect gst unless proven otherwise.

An invoice is the otherwise...
From December 1 2019, All items purchased from overseas and shipped to your YouShop address to your YouShop address will have 15% Goods & Services Tax (GST) applied. If the value of your consignment* is over NZD $1,000 then Customs may also collect duty (and GST on the amount of that duty) at the border.

If its a purchase from a mate, you send direct. Not through a forwarder.

Lots of people seem to find it too much hassle to send internationally, and even if they do go to the trouble of looking up a number those numbers are frequently sky high. Thus even while buying via facebook / forums / etc I'm still very frequently just getting them to send it to my YouShop Oregon address. As in the past, it has simply been the easiest option for everyone involved.

So hypothecially speaking, what happens if you get more than $1000 worth of stuff on aliexpress? They shouldnt be collecting the GST, right? So then when it comes thru to customs they will look at the lies on the parcel to see what to collect on, and then it will be under $1000 so it should come thru?

If I buy one order and the seller sends them as seperate parcels then that would also come straight thru?

Sellers may collect GST if the value exceeds $1000, but they are not required to.

If the package is obviously mislabelled, Customs may request additional information.

AliExpress started charging NZ customers GST at checkout time from a while back.

UK YouShop lost my parcel late last year and putting a search request to try and find it (in the IK YouShop depot) was a waste of time as they told me they would only carry out a search if the item was tracked and I could prove it was accepted by them.
My advice is to make sure your purchase is tracked in both the UK/Europe and the USA so if your goods don't arrive at least you can make sure they will look fot it!

It's a joke the UK PostShop still charges the premium "fast" courier/postage rate when it's been held up in the depot for so long. I've never had any trouble with the USA YouShop and don't mind waiting a couple of extra days by using their economy postage rate.

I think having paid for it means the item was accepted, in this case.

Yep, just making the point that the UK YouShop has other issues besides ongoing delays after payment made.

Not the UK shop, but youshop US. Had an item that hit "international departure" on 9th Jan only get delivered yesterday. I sent a query to youshop on 21st asking about it, as there had been no status updates. I got a "your parcel has left our warehouse" type response, but they did say there were delays currently with processing.

Was pleased it did turn up though, was a warranty replacement with a nominal value declared for GST purposes, looking at their "lost items policy" I wouldn't have been eligible for compensation if it was lost. Something to be wary of in the future I guess.

USA youshop is ok at the moment. I had a parcel on their economy service recently. It arrived at Youshop USA 9/1, paid same day, it left USA on the 14th, arrived in NZ on the 17th, delivered to me at a collection location 18th. That's nine days, good for the economy service.
