The microchip.

I'll take that back a step and say the person who discovered that electric current will flow one way through silicon but not the other if you mix in the right impurities.

Blue LED's.

It's made the current digital age pretty awesome - lighting, medical instrumentation, communications, and Blu-ray tech

My 6-year daughter announced quite recently that forthwith she shall now be known as Kaitlin the Doughnut! This has provided MUCH amusement in our family, but also many strangers she keeps interacting with everywhere we go, esp when they ask her name.

Official Win 10 professional license key for 2,33€ (= 4 NZ$). smile The only down side is that I'll have to get it in the stealth mode again as on the other computers.

That feeling of utter, utter relief when you think you have stuffed something up big time but then manage to undo your boneheaded mistake without lasting damage.

(Tinkering with the backup server in my case. There are other copies but it would have been a total pain to rebuild the entire thing.)

When she was younger, my daughter introduced herself as "Ratbag Biffington" for a while. One old biddy thought that was actually her name and gave me the total stinkeye when she heard. I could read the "tut tut, parents these days" thoughts going through her head from across the room. I made a point of using my daughter's real name loudly within her earshot after that.

Successful refurbishment of my ol' ThinkPad X300 after 9 years with a M.2 SSD and maxed RAM for tool shack use still powerful enough to handle 3D printing.

I went into one of those "speciality" tourist shops in Queenstown just now (following the wife) and almost laughed out loud to find a Blue Fox fur rug for sale.

We all know that wherever Blue Foxes are found, NZ isn't it. Sadly, imo, but there we are.

What cracked me up was (a) the fact that this souvenir of NZ wasn't from NZ and (b) that it cost.....

Keep going....

$30,000.... !!!

(The feeling is less good the next day, mind you.)
