Fisk - Australian Law dramedy. It's a bit of a weird one, but I am enjoying it enough to be looking for episode 4.

It has that awkward, cringey type comedy that is popular now in shows like Wellington Paranormal etc.

I do like Australian TV.

Call my Agent | Netflix | S01 & S02 | 7/10

It's in French with English subtitles and as you would expect is quite "quirky".

We're both enjoying it but I always find you miss the subtle facial expressions when having to read read subtitles which leaves you thinking you're missing out on half of the sarcasm.

Formula 1 - Drive to Survive | S03 | Netflix | 8/10

Just as gripping as the first two series. My wife who has no interest in motorsport at all watched the first one with my son and I and she was hooked. So much so we watched two every night for the last week and finished it last night.

B Positive. I think I was expecting Richard off Silicon Valley to be the same, but he wasn't - and it wasn't the same without the rest of the supporting cast from the latter show, either.

I have watched a few very good series lately.

Queens Gambit - Netflix mini series 9/10. Interesting, well presented story and engaging.

A-Typical - Netflix 10/10. Really got the emotions going.

Ted Lasso - Apple TV+ 8/10. Very funny.

Servant - Apple TV+ 7/10, just finished first season. Spooky and weird.Plenty of intrigue to keep going back for more.

Thinking about starting on The Rookie as seen a few of the first episodes and enjoyed.

Continuing with For All Mankind (Apple TV+) - still quite enjoying it.

Just finished latest season of Star Trek Discovery. Enjoyed it, but not as much as last season.

Also just finished the latest season of Taskmaster UK. Fun as always, but the lack of studio audience and weird social distanced set-up in studio was a bit off-putting.

Interstellar - 6.9/10. More a psychological midwest drama than a scifi film. Oh yes, and very emotional. Not what I expected. It took me a few attempts over several months to get past the first 30 minutes. Credibility issues with some of the sets - ceramic tiles in cryogenic bath areas - on space ships. It's a very good film but I was not in the right mood for this kind of drama. At the end I was thinking a sequel could be good.

Watching Call my Agent on Netflix - going through season 4 now (only six episodes each season). Really funny and serious sometimes. 7.5/10

Two episodes into the Serpent on Netflix, based on true story of a serial killer preying on young tourists in Asia in the 70s.

Shows how easy it was for murderers to evade detection in the days pre social media, cellphone location tracking, CCTV, DNA etc.

eracode:

I’m watching ’Shtisel’ on Netflix  - a soapy about Orthodox Jews living in Jerusalem. It’s light, low-key, insightful and quietly funny. Really different, brilliantly done and very enjoyable. In Hebrew with subtitles.

I have no Jewish connections (apart from having volunteered on a kibbutz in Northern Galilee, Israel, for six months in 1976 with my girlfriend - now Mrs Code - as part of our OE) but I’m hooked on the show and have been bingeing it.

Not sure that my recommendation aroused much interest last time round in July 2020 but I was pleased to notice that Season 3 has just started on Netflix. Just watched the first episode and it’s still expectedly strange (to most of us) but charming and good-natured and I’m still hooked.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Lodge 49. Amazon Prime. Lighthearted tragi-comedy set in Long Beach California. I'm five episodes in. The first episode is slow as. Picks up a good pace late in the second and ripping along by the fourth. Excellent cast.

I’ve been watching a drama called 'Black, Money, Love' on Netflix. It’s Turkish with subtitles. A few friends are also enjoying it and are hooked. There are many twists and turns to the story which starts with a policeman’s fiancé who is poor being found shot dead in a car together with an older rich businessman a few days before her wedding. Of course it’s assumed they are having an affair. The policeman is determined to find why his fiancé was in the car with the rich man and thus meets the rich mans daughters and family.

I was surprised by the prisons which are very communal in that everyone lives in one big cell with a table in the center where they play cards etc. It looked a lot less structured and relaxed compared to our prisons. The series is over 160 episodes.

The culture differences are very interesting and are probably better understood by those who have travelled or lived overseas. A lot is often lost in translation I feel and it depends on how good each episode's translator is.

If you are bi-lingual, I’ve found that you can switch the subtitles to other languages other than English by setting up a new profile and switching both the profile and subtitles to the language of your choice. Doing this doesn’t interfere with your other profiles in Netflix which remain in English. It’s especially good for learners of other languages to practice with.

Might start on Shtisel that @eracode suggests. Sounds interesting.

I've just got to the end of The X-Files - Season 7 on Disney+ which is about when Duchovny leaves the show.

I've enjoyed it so far and some episodes I even remembered from the first time around.

But I dont think I ever saw anything from Season 8 onwards.

Did it go downhill or should I keep watching?

It wasn't as interesting as before, sure but you won't lose anything by watching to the end, then the last season released a few years ago.
