Ge0rge: Surely "received at Post Shop, awaiting courier uplift" couldn't be that hard to implement?

If you're prepared to renegotiate international postal treaties, define new EDIFACT service codes to add "received at Post Shop, awaiting courier uplift", and convince every postal service on the planet to adopt them then no, it'll just be a small matter of programming.

Edited to add: I'm not sure if you'd need to renegotiate postal treaties since I'm not sure at which level enforcement would work, so just added that as a backstop.

^^ Yes, this. It would be accurate and honest.

Most gifts I send these days are gift vouchers that can be electronically delivered, so no postal hassles for me.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Huh, I just had a Nigerian prince asked for me to buy gift cards, scratch off the silver bars, and send him photographs. It's to pay for the large trunk of gold bars I won from the United Nations for my good works.

It seemed like a strange way to pay postage ;)

You do realise that this is NZPost you are talking about!

In the 1990's CourierPost showed more tracking data!

I am also still waiting for the promised million USD. 😁

That is the way of things. You don't get what you paid for. It's going to get worse.

So you'd prefer "Tracking number allocated", telling the recipient "we have no idea where it is or when it'll be picked up, possibly several weeks"?

Yes because that is correct, all that has happened is that the sender has given your details to their shipping software and had a sticker come out at that point. NZ post have no idea if it will even be in the pickup container because it might be too full or the truck might be full.

I dont think that any small retailer is scanning things into the giant cubes, that is reserved for places like mighty ape.

Behodar:

"Order now and get it by Christmas!". Ordered six days ago, not shipped yet, probably won't be here in time for Christmas.

It shipped this morning and the courier's estimate is after Christmas. Meanwhile the seller's site is still saying if you order today then you'll get it by Christmas.

Edit: If you click on it then you get fine print about it only applying to certain items, and only to certain locations, and that it's not a guarantee.

Maybe NZpost were told to 'modernise' and study industry leaders like ARAMEX ? :-)

The beancounters in Treasury, no arguing with them.
Likely furious that NZpost has not yet attained the level of what private enterprise can do.

After some pretty awful service from Specsavers, I finally got my new glasses today.

When I got them, they gave me a code for a survey and advised that if I complete the survey I can go in the draw for a $500 store credit.

The slip of paper with the code gave the crucial part: I can be in the draw for the credit if I rate them a 9 or 10. Otherwise I’m out of luck.

Yeah, you’re getting a 3

I have two sparkplug sockets with each of my 1/2" and 3/8" socket sets.  Unsure what actual size they are but they have the rubber grommet that grabs the plugs so I use whichever of those fits the plugs at the time.

When Spotify finally serves up some cool new music in your playlists that you’re really getting in to. You dig a little deeper to find out more about the band. Only to find that the album you’ve been enjoying was released in 2012 and the band broke up in 2019. Spotify, why have you chosen now to share this music with me and not 10yrs ago???

Apple Music did the same thing to me a couple of weeks ago - was a fun rabbit hole to go down though and I ended up discovering music by the new bands that the various members had joined/formed.
