Just as a matter of interest - Amazon UK won't send here because of the gst thing, so is there anything stopping me ordering from Amazon UK to send to Youshop US and from Youshop US to here ? So I'd have to pay postage to US and gst and postage to NZ but would presumably avoid VAT.
It might not actually work / be a disaster in real life but theoretically ?

Methinks they are taking the piss a bit with that price for that delivery time.

Probably just so they can market their pricing on TV as "Postage options starting from just $10".

Mmm, gaming the privately-contracted system set up by NZ Post to generate income for our government (& bring overseas purchases here too).
What could possibly go wrong?
Gaming the system ? Moi ? But I'd rather brilliantly still be paying gst while not paying vat to a country I don't live in.
But yes, if it can go wrong, it will...

Be better if YouShop refunded VAT as part of Shipping to NZ.. and they get VAT refund back off of UK Tax Dept.
But appears they don't allow it https://www.gov.uk/tax-on-shopping/taxfree-shopping
You cannot get a VAT refund for:
That sounds less like 'cannot' and more like 'we can't be bothered organising'.
Although I guess/hope for Amazon they'd take vat off before it even gets to Youshop.

I recently purchased a used item from a private seller via Ebay UK and am having it delivered via Youshop.
Youshop charged me postage and GST. The GST component surprised me as I thought it would only apply to new items purchased from retailers, not used items sold privately. And given used items from private sellers domestically (eg Trademe) are not subject to GST, why not the same rules for overseas purchases?
My understanding is that used goods purchased overseas have never had GST paid on them in NZ.. so it is due.. The used item off Trade Me has.. so is exempt.
It's getting back to the stage it's easier to have supportive friends or family in locations you want to ship from.
Although I can see the sea freight version helpful on occassion e.g. shipping Li batteries (it looks from their new information like Youshop is no longer accepting Li batteries via Air post under any circumstances).

Maybe not. From the FAQ
Sailing schedule
Parcels are dispatched via Sea Freight once a month.
Parcels are estimated to arrive between 45-60 days after payment is made.
Clearly they are doing freight consolidation and therefore have a ship booked once a month. Though I wonder if a ship is about to leave in a week and you place an order, can they put that item in that container?
Note I have waited up to 6 weeks from Ali so I have developed patience :-(

They are charging half the price for 4 times as much delay, and sea freight is generally much cheaper than air freight.

I don't think sea freight for mail (when it existed) was that much cheaper than air mail, at least since the 1990s or probably earlier. Sea freight for bulk shipments sure, but this isn't that. There's still a lot of handling for lots of small packages. I mean look at the price for shipping within in NZ, especially the retail price.
