Todays annoyance is people arguing about the validity of what annoys me.
No they’re not.
I'm sorry, is this the 25-message argument or the full thread one? And have you paid? I'm not going to argue in my spare time.
Yes you are. 😀
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
The current Trivago ad airing on commercial television - where an extremely irritating smug and superior bastard at a hotel reception desk is alongside another guest who finds he’s paid more.
On its own I would detest this ad but taken in the context of Trivago’s proven dishonest business practices (commented upon in several threads here on GZ in recent years) it really grinds my gears.

That after something like ten years AT still haven't solved the problem of a tag off on public transport being misread as another tag on, so you get charged two sets of fines instead of the actual fare. And since they only keep 30 days worth of data you have to go in every single month to fix up the errors in their broken software for them. I don't think I've ever gone a single month without at least one billing error.
Now multiply this by the number of public transport users in Auckland (AT claims 350k daily users) most of whom won't check their accounts every month and at $12 per misread tag on/off their broken system is screwing Aucklanders out of at least $4 million a month.
This is one of the few times when it'd be useful to be in the US with their class action lawsuits.

The irony in this ad for me is that the smug guy that booked through Trivago likely paid more. At least that's my experience.
Don't know if this is true but I have heard that some people find the best online price and then get a better price by contacting the hotel directly. The hotel doesn't have to pay commission to Trivago etc.
If you've used an online booking service why is the room price even being mentioned at checkout? The hotel will only be interested in additional charges.
And if he is so clever how come he gets his teeth done by a bathroom tiler?

He's an AI deepfake cockup.

The “smug guy” is Jurgen Klopp (football manager) and is worth an estimated $55M. I’m sure he is really concerned about saving $50 on a room, although I have my doubts he would stay in a $250 room. He probably booked it from his private jet.

Didn’t know that and have heard the name but know absolutely nothing about him. Despite that he’s gone down in my estimation by appearing for a ratbag outfit like Trivago.

Yeah Klopp is the thing that annoys me about the ad too.

House flies. Seem to be more prevalent this summer, and if cooking something meaty they really start turning up like teenagers to a party.
Any suggestions to mitigate this? We have gardens around the house but no compost near the kitchen. No idea what is over the back fence behind the kitchen.
Fly traps? Robocans?
We ended up getting a robocan-type automatic sprayer and the fly problem is much reduced.
The small thing that still annoys me is the sound it makes when actuating the sprayer - starkly similar to an elderly man hocking up a loogie.

The robocans annoyed me by leaving a messy residue on anything the spray touched, and dissolved paint on nearby walls.
The cats now do a good job of debugging the house even though it's sometimes at risk of the net curtains needing repairs.

Why anyone would use Trivago is beyond me! It says right there on the ad, in small print at the bottom, that there are probably cheaper options than Trivago but that Trivago won't show them to you because those accommodation providers aren't paying Trivago enough.
I work in this sector and I know that the accommodation providers hate the OTAs with a passion but feel they're forced to use them because otherwise they won't be found and their competition down the road will. They essentially lose anywhere from 10% to 30% of their booking fee as commission to the OTAs, so contacting them directly and booking will usually result in a lower price.
