I don't think sea freight for mail (when it existed) was that much cheaper than air mail, at least since the 1990s or probably earlier. Sea freight for bulk shipments sure, but this isn't that. There's still a lot of handling for lots of small packages. I mean look at the price for shipping within in NZ, especially the retail price.

I had a parcel shipped sea freight with youshop. It arrived into youshop on 12 November and expected to be delivered 18 January so just over two months. I guess it just depends how close to the once per month shipping date you are.

Sorry for the double post earlier.

I wonder if YouShop will give cut-off dates for a month's ship? I'm guessing no in case they have too many and decide to hold the most recent ones over for the next ship and also it could be it's not a fix date just when they have filled a container or whatever.

Anyway assuming you parcel really arrives on the 18 January, I wonder if it'll be before the stragglers of my 11.11 AliExpress orders. (None of them have arrived yet.)

Haven't paid my attention to YouShop or freight forwarders recently as I don't buy much and most of it's from Amazon and ships here. Am thinking of getting something from eBay and since a lot of sellers still don't use eBay global shipping and that can be expensive had a quick look at rates again comparing YouShop, ShipItTo, Stackry, FishIsFast, MyUS with the cheapest options for each except YouShop's normal not sea option.

It looks to me like YouShop still tends to be the best (based on current exchange rates) if we put aside GST (which is a complicated issue). However the high value item surcharge from YouShop probably means ShipItTo, MyUS and Stackry are cheaper for a very low weight high value well above NZD250 item although it isn't that different. For higher weight items, even with the surcharge, YouShop generally wins and possibly by a fair amount AFAICT.

However once you hit the NZD400 for YouShop's Tariff Classification Fee, YouShop is likely no longer such an attractive option. Also if you're shipping something where you expect a lot of volumetric weight, MyUS may be better. OTOH for orders below NZ$400 and especially below NZ$250 depending also on the weight, if you can put up with the long delays YouShop's sea freight option means they're even more attractive pricing wise.

Note I didn't consider consolidation or repackaging or any membership options for those who ship a lot. The one time I used their consolidation service, I wasn't that happy with how much space they left considering it's not like it was filled with protection and IIRC others have also found their consolidation and repackaging aren't as good as some others. They're also noted for often being poor at updates or when things go wrong.

A friend has had things consoldated at one place, invoice removed and then sent to youshop for them to send it here since they just want a PDF uploaded for the invoice its not that hard to get a more reasonable value for things on it.

I have only had one thing taken from shipito to youshop, that was when it came in at an absurd price by DHL at the time, and it looked like youshop was going to be way cheaper. Still cost $40 or so to get it across portland to youshop and the savings ended up less than I expected. But without viable photos/consolodation at youshop, and their needing an invoice policy and not discarding ones in the parcel it does make using 2 reshippers a viable option it would seem.

Just received... So many regulations, it would be a surprised if people use the service at some point:

We’re writing to let you know about some changes to the shipment of dangerous goods through the YouShop USA Sea Freight service, which have come about due to a recent legislation change in the USA.

Dangerous goods will now be assessed on their packaging and handling suitability prior to being shipped. If your package needs to be assessed, you’ll be asked to provide a Material Data Safety Sheet (MSDS). The retailer that you bought your item from will be able to provide this to you. We are unable to ship any items without the correct documentation.

To get your shipment sorted as quickly as possible, you could request this document from your retailer in advance and upload it alongside your invoice when paying for your YouShop shipping.

As a result of this change, any parcels containing dangerous goods that can travel via Sea Freight are estimated to arrive 60 – 120 days after payment is made.

120 Days! At this point it would be quicker to wait till the pandemic is over, swim there, walk to a store, have a holiday, and swim home!

That's a long time, alright.

I've got my first sea freight package on the way - bulky and heavy (25kg) BBQ parts.

Paid for in mid Jan, shipped from YouShop (presumably on the actual ship) on 3rd of Feb, anticipated delivery by 19th of March.

That said, sea freight from Youshop the only option for certain items, and I'm glad it's available at all. For example, lithium batteries. I may have to suck it up at some stage when I need a new proprietary Li-po battery from the US for my solar pool cleaner. First world problems and all.

Good luck!

The oldest package I have is sitting at 94 days since they recieved it (I payed for delivery the same day it arrived).

Don't be suprised if you have a 3 or 4 month wait.

Just wondering, generally hows it going with Youshop via airfreight nowadays ? Are these 3 or 4 month waits for air or sea ?

Is there anything to stop me sending something from Amazon in Europe to USA Youshop and hence to NZ ?

I'd use YouShop more often but the NZ$2000 limit is a real killerm when it comes to wanting to buy bigger items like a laptop. I would be ok if they said, "it is insured up to $2000 but beyond that you're on your own" but at the rate Google makes their products available as well either go to Australia or United States then bring it back. I'm surprised that they're still doing seat freight these days.

I used planet express as a reshipper recently, FedEx as the carrier. I was very happy with their service.

Plant Express seems a possibility. Has cheaper options than YouShop and Shipito. Not sure about an option just called 'Postal Office: Fully Tracked' - sounds pretty vague.
