The info I received was excellent, with a surprising piece of info on the way car batteries perform (and the fallacy that taking your car for a 30min drive will charge a modern battery).

Interesting considering AA were the ones promoting that everyone should run their cars in their driveways for 30 mins each week during lockdown to keep the battery topped up.

The irony wasn't lost on me...

There's a significant amount of value in an appropriately sized C-Tek charger that can maintain a vehicle battery for lockdowns or other extended periods of non-use. I have one on a tether next to where I park my vehicle, it gets plugged in every time I park it. It always makes me smile when I walk past and the lights are showing green.

I ordered a couple of C-Tek MXS 5.0 chargers from Repco a couple of weeks ago at $139 each. Brilliant bit of kit, especially at that price locally.

Here is some old tech that also works well: I just disconnect the battery. It is easy with my older car and doesn't affect anything else of importance. There is a lot to be said for the gadget-free technology of the past.

I have a C-Tek that lives permanently on my ride on lawn mower. It has a manual power disconnect, essentially the same as taking a terminal off, however self-discharge and temperature cycles give any battery a hard time - especially over winter when it is used least.

And yes, my workshop does resemble a fire station, with umbilicals hanging down for things to plug into :D

Certainly is a valid approach in some cases.

The two vehicles that my charger alternates between both have GPS/GSM tracking alarms that will create a constant slow drain in order to function.  So disconnecting is not a viable option while keeping that feature.

Meh, tin cans on wheels. German cars OTOH are built like tanks.

How enthusiastic the police are about catching baddies. A couple of police appeared outside my window, one with a police dog, the other with an automatic weapon. Looking for someone dodgy.

They ran off into the bush looking for the guy.

Had two tyres replaced yesterday. When I got home I found the nut lock was missing and finally found it with the help of the shop's CCTV...

I was very happy to find that.

Sheesh, she's got grounds for permanent name suppression based on that alone.

NZ Herald - Teen jailed for pointing firearm at Rotorua police and stealing patrol car

"Walker was jailed for two years and two months on the charge of aggravated robbery and was disqualified from driving for six months for aggravated failing to stop."

The driving disqualification will presumably be served during her jail term, to minimize inconvenience.

I wonder if she'll get her gun back?  😐
