I bought and end of line Polar heart rate band that was supposedly compatible with the exercise machines at the gym.  It was bit of a punt and I was prepared for it not to work.  But I tried it and it just worked, first time.

Even found a video explaining how to replace the 'non-replaceable' battery.

That absurd feeling of accomplishment when I finish off a tray of pils.

(The feeling is less good the next day, mind you.)

That tray of pils coming from the brewery around the corner.

That our son was made redundant, knew it was coming as the company he worked for was going bust, took an incredibly casual attitude to this certainty despite "dad advice" that the longer he was out of work the harder it would be to get a job. He ignored job tips and leads given to him, bought a new surfboard, stuffed around in a recording studio which AFAIK hasn't paid him, played a few music gigs for peanuts or free beer, annoyed the crap out of me generally so that about a fortnight ago I decided to not worry about it any more at all and gave up on him as ever being a contributing member of society.

He starts his new full time job on Monday.  He met his new employer at the beach when he was surfing. I got a lecture along the lines of "see - I told you not to worry".

I'd have been annoyed too, but I'd take high EQ over high IQ any day.

I just spent a half-hour on the phone with a scammer. He took me to the Event Viewer log, showed me all the errors, gave me a lot of BS, some of which was incomprehensible, and we danced around for awhile. All of this seemed aimed at getting me to click on his site, which I refused to do since I didn't have my sacrificial goat pc set up. But I was able to string him along anyway. He was unusually determined and seemed convinced he had a live one on the line. I finally got tired of it, had other things to do, so told him he didn't know much about Windows computers and I knew he was a scammer and was full of crap and I was just wasting his time to keep him from scamming someone else. After that he finally shut up and disconnected. That made me smile.

Just had another one. I must be on their call list. I told this one my OS was Android. That seemed to confuse him a little.

How snappy everything feels after a factory reset and clean install. It's almost like a new device!

Nice! I'm pretty sure kids are sent into this world specifically to test us!

Attending my daughter's university graduation today.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

A 1Gb/s fiber link from the IT rack to the attic, where the IT equipment with (exposed outside) antennae lives. No longer to fear lightning strikes in the proximity.
