New Zealand police arrest pair trying to enter Auckland with ‘large amount’ of KFC

Two men have been arrested after police said they found them with a car boot-full of Kentucky fried chicken and over $100,000 in cash as they tried to cross the border into Auckland despite New Zealand’s strict Covid-19 lockdown.

The men were arrested after allegedly trying to flee from police near the Auckland border. When their car was searched, police said they found a large quantity of KFC, as well as the cash and a number of empty ounce bags.

This suggests a great way for the police to catch dope fiends, announce a level 4:20 lockdown, widely publicise the fact that a small number of KFCs will be allowed to remain open, and then arrest anyone turning up to buy unusually large quantities of fried chicken.

The rest of Auckland can keep their takeaways, I managed to book a level 3 round of golf for next week even though the Dot Golf website was creaking under the pressure of every course in Auckland opening up their time sheets at 8pm tonight.

Let the memes begin...

Maybe there's a meme in waiting about anti-vaxxers and KFC.

There's not much to laugh about with the Taliban, but I think their navy is kinda cute:

My neighbour is in poor health and can't get about much, but every day he walks - slowly - to the top of the street and back three times for exercise. The kids at the top of the street are providing ever-changing street art for him:

He joked that when we're out of lockdown he'll get some chalk and change the "Ducks crossing" to "Old duck crossing" :-).

Worth having a search for Band-e Amir National Park, the photos are stunning but don't do it justice. The waters are amazing to swim in, depending on time of year - it does freeze over!

It would be an absolutely lucrative tourist destination if it weren't for those clowns. There was a major hotel chain that even looked to build there several years ago - including site visits - but security concerns killed it off.

This made me smile. Maybe the Venetians could provide the Taliswans with some musical accompaniment.

Someone in the office has a dentist appointment today. She had to carefully time brushing her teeth: Need to do it after having morning tea, but can't leave it too late for fear that the dentist will see these freshly-brushed teeth and think that they've only been brushed to 'show off' to the dentist.

She also got a call asking whether she wanted to come early as someone else had cancelled, so this caused a minor panic: She had to take the sweets out of her handbag and leave them at work, in case the dentist saw them.

The really funny thing is that this is a person who doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks of her... unless you're a dentist, apparently!

Maybe if she permanently left the sweets alone she'd not need the dentist at all. Maybe the dentist would be pleased to see sweets in her bag - they're what help keep him in business. 😀

Maybe she has a crush on the dentist. Maybe she eats the sweets to give her an excuse to see the dentist. So many possibilities in this story - could easily be the basis of a script for an episode of Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Please keep us updated.

That a lift kit for a car comes with special instructions for California residents to warn them about the product containing materials that may cause cancer .... are Californians known for eating these things ? :-)

Prop 65 mandatory labelling laws for California, everything "known to the State of California to cause cancer" has to be labelled. Since almost everything is carcinogenic eventually, almost everything ends up being labelled.

A worse example of this is the zero-risk bias in the Delaney Clause that was added to US food regulations in the 1950s which prohibited any cancer-causing agent to be present in food. Since the state of cancer research now has advanced vastly since the 1950s and see above for cancer-causing agents, what's happened is that a bunch of much higher-risk things are being added to food because they don't have the 1 in 6.023e27 chance of causing cancer in mice that the low-risk thing has.

Watching Miss 9 who is only slightly larger than a bottle top, smash 3 bowls full of pasta. If I hadn't refused her the fourth helping fearing an uprising later, she'd still be eating I suspect!
