My Dell work laptop does exactly the same thing. Its bloody annoying. I'll be docked at my desk with the lid open so I can use the webcam for Teams calls. I'll close the lid, undock and walk 20sec to a meeting room and it won't come back on without a hard restart.

If you have permissions on the laptop, I'd be inclined to reset your power settings to defaults.

I just saw on a Samsung webpage for a Galaxy tablet that it has 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM...  Will be staying away from a tablet that won't let me write any data to it! 🤦‍♂️

No one needs more than 2GB of writeable memory!

It didn't seem that long ago Bill Gates reputedly told us "640k ought to be enough for anybody".

I was pointing more at the way they mis-labelled the storage as "ROM" rather than the 2GB of RAM...

Or disable Modern Standby.

Dan Hooker and Israel Adesanya supporting a prize fight with zero safety controls... they should know better than to support dangerous blood sport such as this.

Mind you, the whole MMA is scene barely above prison cage fights IMHO.

President of NZ's Boxing Coaches Association calls out Dan Hooker's fighting event

These amateur and MMA fighters are going to show up with serious, debilitating brain injuries at a young age.

Welllllllll, perhaps more under-labelled than mis-labelled because you can write to ROM.

As long as it is the EE type.

Yes, it seems that modern writers and tech users have a deep misunderstand of Read Only Memory (ROM) means.

Sure, say something like 2 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. But "ROM"? That's just wrong.

Yeah, nah.

Flash memory is different from EEPROM.

There may be different technology under the hood but if you can electrically erase it, its the same.

I wonder why WorkSafe don't prosecute the organisers of these events?
By the reports, somebody was definitely injured ("knocked unconscious" and "fitting"), and since there was prize money at stake, it was definitely paid work. Of course, if WorkSafe did take a prosecution, they'd probably have to go after MMA and boxing as well. When the entire purpose of a "contest" is to hurt another person, surely that's is too unsafe to be allowed?

Erasing an EEPROM is not the same as flash memory. EEPROM have a much lower cycle than memory used for storage. It would not work on phones. That's why is used mostly in controllers and IoT devices for saving configuration only.

All true but the point is, and I could have worded it better, I agree , if we have a Venn diagram of memory types including ROM, in the ROM circle we will have EEPROM and in the EEPROM circle we will have flash.

So the label for the product is not wrong as such because flash is a type of ROM.

Occam's Razor - the copywriter for the webpage knew a little about computers (enough to have heard the term ROM), but not enough to prevent themselves looking foolish (doesn't know what ROM actually means).

Its a Chinese translation thing that leads to this, not ignorance about computers.

It's possible WorkSafe doesn't have enough people on the ground.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell
