Sam91: Making a Murderer

If you have Netflix you've probably scrolled past it by now. If you listened to the first season of Serial (podcast) then I recommend you watch this. I haven't watched "The Jinx" but apparently it's a similar style to that also.

I don't want to say too much, and I can't post any links (I'm new). Check out the trailer.

By the way, it's a documentary series (10 episodes), but you could watch it as a 10 hour movie ; )

9.3 on IMDB

Thought I would look at first episode last night before going to bed. Finished up doing three episodes, totally hooked.

You couldn't make this stuff up ... and it's true!

I'll have a look... although I hope I don't end up sitting up through the night watching more and more.

Star wars force awakens. Again. Straight 2D this time. Really enjoyed it again. Lynnmall $10, sound was a bit loud and the mix drowned the dialogue on several occasions, got the impression front centre was too low, beer batter chips for 5.5 served in 5min, big seats, easy in easy out of complex, overall enjoyed the visit.

We watched Ace Ventura with the kids last night....was as enjoyable as ever however within a couple of minutes we realised it wasn't quite as young child appropriate as I'd remembered so a couple of times we needed to fast forward a little.

After that we watched The Last Witch Hunter with Vin Diesel as the lead it wasn't as bad as I expected and the visuals were quite well done.  If you like those sort of movies and don't expect too much it can be a good nights viewing.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

9/10 Outstanding story and acting and Gary Oldman is magnificent as George Smiley. Deserved an Oscar.

No CGI needed in this one.

Actually, sometimes you'd be surprised how much, and when/where it's used:

Tinker, Tailer. Solder, Spy VFX Breakdown [YouTube]

(There could be more videos like this out there, many films have them)

How about that.

I was actually thinking more of action movies when I said that.

I haven't seen Making a Murderer but Serial was very good! I'm listening to the second season of it now.

DarthKermit: Labyrinth on TV3 to remember David Bowie.

It's a bit disappointing that they would choose Labyrinth to honour him, especially when Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence was really his stand-out role . . . in which he played a New Zealander, in a film that was partly shot in NZ (at a time when international film makers didn't know where NZ was) .
But I guess having to read subtitles for a significant proportion of the movie is probably beyond TV3's current demographic.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. Meh.  5/10.

It wasn't *BAD* as such, but it wasn't good either.

It is a festival type movie and pretty disturbing stuff actually so I'm not surprised. There were scenes shot in Auckland, but not 'as' Auckland. Most was on location in Rarotonga.

Edit: based on a fiction book by Van der Post a South African. Central character I believe was originally south African movie probably changed to NZ origin character to make it a bit more English.

Alien: The Director's Cut on Prime. Still the best SciFi/Horror movie ever IMO.

Went and saw the Dreamworks exhibition at Te Papa yesterday, so naturally had to re-watch Shrek.

Still love it - and have much more appreciation into the work that went behind it!

American Hustle 8/10

Big name cast with Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence produced an excellent story about con artists and an FBI sting to trap corrupt politicians in the 1980's.
