Handsomedan:

There's a local track I ride, often with friends, and we take it pretty easy.

Thanks to one of those apps I saw my fastest time was over 10 minutes compared to the fastest of just under 7 minutes. I had a chance to tackle it by myself today and I decided to go for it.

I trimmed my time to under 8 minutes and hit number 5 on the leader board!

And the best thing is I didn't crash.....

Can't see how the leader is another minute faster tho. That I'd like to see.

On-road/Off-road?

Not that it's material, but it helps me form an opinion on the additional minute...and we know how important my opinions are.

Off road. Dirty fun is the best

How long is the trail? A minute is a lot, regardless of the length, but if it's a good few km's then at least you can point to the other person's ability to power up hills or that they're riding a Turbo Levo or something....

It's not so long, mostly doesn't steep drops but has many (12?) bridges, half at right angle to the track where the stream is crossed. Slowing down is kinda obligatory there :-)

I can only conclude the record holder is some kind of middle aged maniac with a stack of ACC forms ready to go.

Very technical trail?

Where in the country/world is it?  Sounds like a fun trail.  :-)

This article about SoftRAM 95 (remember that?) and how it worked (or didn't). An amusing read, particularly once you get to the bit about how the compression actually works.

This emaii I just got from my GP, especially the parts I've bolded.

Many GP practices are planning for how they will keep their community safe, and Whitby Doctors are no exception.

Once Covid-19 is circulating in the Wellington Region we plan to change the way we provide healthcare to our patients.

This will largely impact our unvaccinated Covid-19 patients.

Whitby Doctors will manage unvaccinated Covid-19 patients including children under 12 years or unmasked patients differently.

Most of your consultations will be by phone or video with your Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Nurse. If during this consultation it is agreed that you need a

physical examination you may be required to have this at certain times, in an external building or separate room. Please note your usual Provider may not be available.
This may attract an extra charge.

The above is in line with what many other practices are planning.

Edit: unfortunate about the under 12s as they don't have a choice at the moment.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Having had the opportunity to go to the T20 World Cup final made me smile. It wasn’t the result I wanted but 2020 and 2021 have been a reminder that life is short and opportunities you don’t take are ones you miss out on.

I would have regretted not going and I’m so glad I did.

Got out on my bike yesterday with my two teenaged boys. Wife wasn't keen due to weather.

Left the house in rain and got to the forest (around 40min drive away) where we thought it was dry.

It appeared dry right up to the point that it wasn't. We got stuck on a trail that was ankle-deep claggy clay. Not fun.

Once we got out of that mess and managed to scrape as much of the mud off our tyres and shoes as we could, we had a great afternoon! 12.5km of off-road fun, some newly-built trails that were great gun and a few oldies that we haven't ridden for a while.

So nice to get out and do what we love after a long and grinding lockdown. Was great for the mental health.
