That from Dec 1st on the ISP bill can be linearly reduced when you don‘t get the contractual internet bandwith (in GER). There is a tool from the regulation authority to automatically analyze and record this both ways, up- and download speed. Suddenly I get about 5-10% speedup compared to what the contract says and the effect is noticeable. I‘m very impressed and have nothing to complain.

Not sure if this is best placed in the Trump thread or here, but:

California governor pushes for gun laws modeled on Texas abortion ban.

Dec 12 (Reuters) - California Governor Gavin Newsom said he plans to use a controversial U.S. Supreme Court ruling on strict abortion curbs in Texas to design a law that would allow private citizens to sue some gun manufacturers, distributors and sellers.

Reminds me of various states in the US who have pushed for freedom-of-religion laws and then realised that there were religions other than evangelical Christinaity that this would provide freedom-of.

It's going to be awhile before I can get the grin off my face.

I look forward to such regulatory tools being introduced here. Ideally on the Wellington train service...I think the passengers would travel for free 95% of the time!

That Pak'n'Save has the new season's cherries in stock already. The big really dark NZ-grown ones, not the tasteless rubbish from the US.

Just watched André Rieu's Maastricht Christmas special on Dutch TV. I enjoy him and always find his concerts uplifting, but what makes me smile is the ease of flawlessly streaming FTA TV from anywhere in the world. It wasn't that long ago that we were still on dial-up out here, and I will never fail to fully appreciate the difference.

Got an own 2nd level domain name (incl. subdomains/wildcards) for selfhosting in conjunction with a dynamic IP address. Time for the reverse proxy server set-up with Nginx. :-)

Already posted to the 5G thread.. In the unlikely event that someone has one of these, I'd love to borrow it to see what's in there.

During a recent regular medical checkup, my GP asked me to go for a routine blood test. Went yesterday and the test was done at 9:30 am at a suburban Med Lab test place.

At 2:30 pm I received a text from my GP saying test was all good. It wasn't the result that made me smile - more the fact that I got the result so quickly. Pretty impressive that the test sample had to be physically collected by a Med Lab driver, transported then handed to someone to process it, result communicated to my GP who passed it on to me all within five hours.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
