I cant even bring myself to watch the trailer. so I'll be skipping the movie.

TC is also the reason I didn't see rock of ages.

Poll: Intimidation was one of Reachers tools to prevent unnecessary violence, Cruise does not have the build or gravitas to intimidate people by simply standing there. Sure an action scene can make him look badass but Reacher is a character who does not need to move to be badass.

I am a huge fan of Jack Reacher Novels, but you nailed it. In that trailer he is seen to be outweighed and has a huge height disadvantage over the attackers, not really conducive to following the storyline.

I'll see it because I can't NOT see it, and I like TC as an actor, but I can't see myself overcoming the difference in height and weight.

gzt: That is the most unconvincing trailer ever. Vin Diesel can make crap like this look good. Cruise, meh. Unless there is some serious and smart Cohen brother-ing not shown in the trailer.

Usual approach with Cruise is put him on a box for height and hire shorter actors. Cohen brothers have not gone down that road. It would have been more convincing if they had reversed the story and made Reacher a short bloke like Cruise and played on that effect.

I don't think the Cohen brothers are actually making it, what I meant was their style would suit it better.

In my mind this is who I picture as Jack Reacher. Probably too old now.

I think even John Reese (Jim Caviezel) from Person of Interest would've made a decent Jack Reacher, better than Cruise!

Seems like it is more of a "I'll get my mate to do this" rather than the right person. The Director did Valkyrie with Cruise and is writing Top Gun 2 (maybe with Cruise involvement?).

I really enjoy the books and did not expect Cruise to play the part. Not suited at all, but I will still watch it. The Director certainly does not have any experience so not expecting much from this at all.

I've not read the books or know anything about them but the trailer seems like 'The Punisher' without as many guns/vendettas... I might have to get the novel on the Kindle though and see what's what.

Novels :) They are a series. Be prepared to not sleep much, they are excellent and exciting. I was happy enough to meet Lee Child when he was here last, and he actually knew who I was from interacting with him on his forums which was really cool. Having met him I think he could almost have played his own character though he is a little lightweight.

I have just started reading (on my Kindle) Lee Child's series of novels.

Haven't read a book for years, bit I'm going to enjoy reading the 16 Jack Reacher titles published to date.

Can't imagine pretty boy Tom Cruise starring in the lead role.

The trailer was way over the top. Typical Hollywood BS!!

Tom Cruze owns the production company - that is why he stars.  Why do you think he keeps making movies?

On that note - the russian version of the trailer is much better - you cant hear squeaky Tom's voice - its much more gruff, also you dont get that rubbish of JR explaining himself.

And what's with the car scene?  JR does not do car chases

Have a read of a few of the novels. I think you'll find these to be over the top as well. That's not a problem for the fans though, it's what we want. Often when reading another story, I think 'If Jack Reacher were in this same predicament, I know what he'll do'.

There are 16 novels in the series. It makes me wonder why someone has not had a go at a movie based on these stories by now. Kudos to those who are now making it. As with every other adaption of a popular novel or series, it is very unlikely that all expectations will be met with one film. We'll all have a better movie in our imaginations from when we read the novels.

One thing I find quite amusing is that JR never waits for a situation to evolve in a fight, he just decides there might be a fight and starts clobbering time. It's badass :)

Berenger was a good choice, but in my mind, the only actor who should have been considered to play Reacher is Hugh Jackman.
