KiwiNZ:
Klipspringer: This is ridiculous.

disagree

for the record my family military involvement is as follows...

Father, WW2,
two uncles NZ Army,
Father in law British Army,
Uncle NZ Navy,
Uncle RNZAF,
two sons NZArmy,
Four Nephews NZ Army,
one Niece NZ Army,
Brother in law NZ Army,
Sister in law Australian Army,
Sons father in law  NZ Army

And my definition of a soldier is a Patriot, someone who fights for their country and fights for what they believe. Somebody that will serve his country even if it means death.

Not training because its too cold does not fit this definition very well. Ridiculous ....

Being killed in a pointless training execise is not serving ones country.

But I guess it's easy to be gungho in the safety of a NZ Summer.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

What about being killed in a training exercise a couple of days before going to war. Ie, training in these cold conditions?

It's the EU I am afraid.

Their rules also mean that the MoD can be sued if soldiers are killed in action and the MoD can be shown to be in any way not to have done everything to prevent it.

The EU also stopped conkers being played in school playgrounds and made the UK government give million dollar houses to immigrants and support them...!

old3eyes: So as the Russians advance into Western Europe in the winter the EU decides it's too cold to fight so they wave the white flag due to OSH concerns. Churchill would turn in his grave...

That would be pre-deployment training and a whole lot different

So you saying its fine to train if you know the war is coming.

What about being prepared at all times? How do you train to be prepared for war. Even if it does not come?

thats really good but fail to see that it makes you an expert as you are only getting this info third hand and someones opinion.

I agree I am no expert and do not profess to be, that would be disrespectful to sons and others, but one cannot live, meet, talk, debate etc on a regular basis with folks and not learn from them.

The one thing I did learn is our soldiers are very loyal, very professional, and very caring.

Trying to train to the level of deployment in every condition, to meet every scenario is next to impossible. In the modern army war is but one task of many.

Being a soldier is being prepared for as much as you can be, if you aren't trained for as many situations as possible they're doing it wrong...

If they went to war and were deployed in an area with -25 weather then you would damn hope they were trained for it.

I personally know many people who have served from the US airforce/military to the NZ Navy/Military. One of my mates has been medicated for 7 years due to him not being able to sleep at night from what he had to go through, he told me he wishs no one to go through what he had to... He flew so he wasn't use to being on the ground, when they deployed him on the ground the training he had received wasn't so suitable for what they were doing at the time.

So stopping training in an area deemed to dangerous is stupid as you may just find you are deployed in that area yourself...

I'm going to noob myself past judgement

It would be interesting to see the comments if soldiers get killed whilst on exercise or training, in fact i have seen the comments and the way compliance with stupid laws has dumbed us down however they are laws.

so quite a few of you here seem to be fine if we kill troops during training exercises?

would it be acceptable for electricians to work with exposed high voltage wires around them?

or a miner to work in a mine shaft with no ventilation?

Obviously not.

A soldier is not an average employee and should not be treated as such.

The normal rules of our society do not apply if you part of the military. Its like an accepted dictatorship. Heck.. Imagine if the military was run like a democracy. Seems like thats what people are asking for?

Oh ok so just because someone lives in Africa it's fine for us to not care if a warlord comes along and starts killing villagers just because that's what the country is like?

Also the British military is run by a democracy.

As it shows you seem to lack compassion for you fellow humans.

May you please join the military and see what it's like before posting further on this topic. thanks in advance.

Our Army is not a conscript Army, it is made up of professionals that chose to be there. Of course the rules of society apply to the Army it is nonsense to say they don't. A lot of the non pre-deployment exercises are done
for political and propaganda purposes and provide no real advantage to the personnel.

The Defence Force could do more realistic training to ensure all personnel are trained to meet all scenarios but are you willing to pay considerably more taxation to facilitate this and to ensure its done effectively and safely?
