gzt: Imho it will be beneficial and probably reduce other costs for the system. It looks like the appeal authority told winz to pay for approximately half of it. This is not exactly the same as paying for all of it. So I think there is a lot of sensationalism in the headlines about this one.

1/3 after she purchased the item

I'm sure in the high court the MSD will have experts giving their opinions on what little evidence that piece of machine is to solve whatever the problems are.

And she can have her experts giving evidence of what proof there are that the now withdrawn from US market pieces of metal bolted together can have an impact on her problems.

The article didn't say if she bought it outright in 1 payment. Or if it was bought on some type of finance. (Just lots of [not so] easy payments of $30 per week type thing) As if it was on finance, Then there is now a responsible lending code. Which requires lenders to check that people applying for finance won't suffer undue hardship to meet their repayments. I doubt that that code would have been complied with in this situation. In which case the lender would have some liability as well.

solves so many problems, esp if the doctor writes a supporting letter.

Any funding must be authorized by the governing act not just a Doctors certificate. And yes vehicles can be funded in certain circumstances.

She could of paid cash or put it on a credit card but the cheek of her to expect the tax payer to fund a 3k treadmill is nuts

Percentages being as they are some may well qualify for assistance based on individual circumstances.

Unfortunately law/rules are there to be followed. She is entitled to it as per the law/code - it is not her that you need to get pissed off - it is those WHO created the rule.

Take note of what Mike said - doctors can write a gazillion letters but these will be assessed independently by independent doctors/authorities.

So bad news, you cant score a gym
