MSD are in a no win situation and will be dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. It will be interesting if the High Court upholds the Appeal Authorities decision what section of the SSA will be
Used to authorize the payment.

I don't think Winz should pay.  Benefits are for survival not wants.  Heck I would love  $3000 treadmill.  Would I expect Winz to pay for one ?. NO !!!!   If she wants exercise there is a huge treadmill available for her for free.  Its called OUTSIDE.   Have to get away from entitlement mind frame.

Jase2985: is there something wrong with walking outside?

Yes, if you're fat enough it is much better and comfortable to run on treadmill rather than walking outside.

Edit: just read the article. It sounds like she has had fracture in the past. Walking on treadmill is much better as it is properly padded.

It is hard to make a judgment here as the circumstances are not known. There maybe medical reason it is needed or other reasons. MSD cannot and will not make details known to the public.

The cheek of some people!
My wife and I would love a 3 grand treadmill, but we have to pay money for taxes so people can be given this money to live.
Not buy bloody 3 grand treadmills!

Self entitled cow.

the answer is no. if it is health related the DHB can pay for it, as a loan.

To make such a certain decision you must be aware of all the circumstances, can you enlighten the thread with this.

Sorry but when you can buy high end treadmills for $1200 there's absolutely no need to spend 3 grand of taxpayers cash on one!

It often falls on MSD to pick up funding where the DHB's do not have authority to meet, so again without knowing the circumstances a definitive answer here is next to impossible.

Wrong, medical circumstances bring expenditure way in excess of $1200 or are you saying this should be some sort spending cap

Imho it will be beneficial and probably reduce other costs for the system. It looks like the appeal authority told winz to pay for approximately half of it. This is not exactly the same as paying for all of it. So I think there is a lot of sensationalism in the headlines about this one.
