I agree for the most part. I love all cats, not just particular breeds, and I don't see a need to create more cats when there is not exactly a shortage of them. However, I also respect that cat breeding and specific breeds are important to some people and there should be a place for that, as long as it can be done responsibly.

Depends what you can responsible. Here's a list of issues from a cat breeders association:

It does not give incidence but some are very common. All to get a colour or some other arbitrary aesthetic quality.

Last I checked, the cats in New Zealand didn't swim here by themselves. We introduced them; along with rats, stoats, pigs, deer, etc.

I approve of feral cat numbers being culled back. All pet owners should have their animals fixed. Sadly so many don't and there are many thousands of unwanted cats.

.22 air rifles work well.

I'm anti the idiots that introduced creatures that have no place being where they ended up.

That'd take a bit more than a .22 air rifle to deal with.

Yup. Got mine fixed. She has a strict curfew too.

Cats can sometimes help keep rodent populations down. Those vicious little (sometimes cute & cuddly) buggers like birds too. They'll devastate a nest and munch-out on the eggs too.

I don't actually dislike cats as such (I mean cmon cute and furry etc), I just dislike other peoples animals coming onto my property, killing birds, pissing, pooping, etc. I'd have exactly the same issue with dogs or fish if they came onto my property and did those things. If cats were microchipped, and the owners got large fines for them roaming off their property, it would be far less of a problem.

Have you gone over to all your neighbours and explained to them the situation? Or are you just shooting cats without giving the owner a chance to 'teach' their cat to stay away from your property?

I'm ripped about how murderous cats get away with anything. Especially when I have to pay a license fee, get our property fenced, and have to send our beautiful wee pup "Bonzo" off to be desexed.
