The one from yesterday proclaimed that Saturday's draw was a special one, presumably because it supports Kaikoura, the one from today addressed me by name and exhorted me to 'give it a go'. These are after I previously unsubscribed to all emails on the web site.

Some companies can take a week or longer to remove you from mailing lists I have found.

Someone who knows someone who knows about it was telling me the average yearly spend required to actually win anything at all is much much higher than it used to be. Lots of different 'products' etc.

The implication was it would be better for the average players if it was structured differently.

I find the 'excitement' type marketing and the creation of different 'products' of this 'game' is more than a a bit dystopian.

Ubiquity is an email service. You comment "they have no business here" is another overreaction. Don't shoot the messenger.

Click the unsubscribe button - this will remove you from the Ubiquity database. To be double sure, login to Lotto and check your profile to make sure there is not other email type you are subscribed to.

I already did these things before I received the emails. That is why I overreacted. I have now done them again and also double-checked that I am not subscribed to anything else. I'll let you know if I receive another one.

I recently got spam from lotto, this is at least the second time I've completely unsubscribed since closing my account a year or two ago.

Yeah, it's really not on. I tend to cuss out companies that do this, no idea if they ever read those emails. I'm hoping they do it enough to get globally spam filtered at google etc.

Ubiquity is a direct marketing company that a number of companies use.

I too am not impressed with Lottos handling of email communications

Despite the fact I selected to not receive any promotion / marketing emails

I get on average three a month or more

and their unsubscribe does not work but my delete all mylotto.co.nz rule in the email filter does...

Its a shame companies can't get their act together

Why don't you let Lotto know? Telling everyone here isn't going to solve your problem.

If they don't remove you from bulk mailing lists, I believe they are in contravention of some law (maybe not a law?)

I opened the account for a specific purpose. I then immediately unticked all the boxes on the site so I wouldn't receive any emails. I was annoyed when this was ignored, and double annoyed by the tone of the second email pressuring me to 'give it a go'. I assume all the public service announcements on TV about problem gambling are there for a reason.

If it happens again I will let them know, and the appropriate authorities as well. I was surprised and angry that it happened even once, for exactly the reason you cite. Lots of posts on GZ are about businesses and organisations that get things wrong, and the irritation this causes. I don't think mine was misplaced though I agree I could have worded the title better. Like I said, I was surprised and angry.

Just downloaded this to have a look. If you don't allow the app access to your location, it won't work at all. If you have an app that can buy the tickets, why would you use said app to direct you to your nearest Lotto store? And regardless, I will never use that feature and don't like giving apps more access than they actually need.

EDIT: It says it has to do this to conform to Apples terms and conditions as the app is only allowed to be used in NZ.
