If people choose not to load some of the content that the authors of the site use, and it doesn't work then there is nothing to fix from their perspective.

I cant think of any shows on =r+h3 that I would want to watch that I cant get thru other means so other than loading it and going "damn that is one bloody slow website" I wont be actually trying to use it.

+HR=E
So does this mean when you add HR to anything you get energy? Certainly where I have worked in the past, adding HR involvement to anything usually makes things worse and removes energy 😉.

Why do they think this will make any difference to viewers?

The logo could be composed of cavorting nubiles and it still wouldn't convince me to watch shows I don't like.  And even when watching shows I do like I FFx64 the advert breaks.

I think I know what happened here ..

I'd only watch TV1,2,3 etc if they introduced free streaming. Even then it would just be on in the background. Otherwise all the TV we watch is on demand.

TV3 does stream now I think: http://www.threenow.co.nz/live-tv-guide/three I don't know about 1 or 2.

I don't watch much 'live' TV anymore but thought I'd flick it on this morning for the news. Except there isn't any on TV3 - they've only got this mish mash of bits from Paul Henry. Absolutely pathetic that they can't organise themselves a decent morning news program*, perhaps the parent company needs to rebrand - mediadoesntworks?

* TVNZ can't either to be fair, Breakfast is a very dreary affair.

While it is human nature for the masses to dislike any logo changes like this, I must admit that this is a seriously bad one.  I've not watch TV3 since the change but I hope they have a cut down version for their watermark rather than having to see +HR=E plastered all over the very occasional show I watch on the channel.

Thanks - that's quite useful. I'll give it a go in the weekend

trig42:

I can remember their inital logo from 30 years ago (or whenever it launched - late 80s anyway).

I remember getting a stereo radio we had, tuning into TV3 in FM stereo! (big for the time), and throwing it behind the couch we had.  Instant surround sound around 1989 or so.

Might be wrong here, would have to google, but TV3 did lead the way in a lot of areas.  The Nicam stereo being one of them, and maybe first to show the likes of NCIS in HD and surround sound on freeview.

Their Logo reminds me of the tragic logo at that new mall in Massey.

The new logo is banal to the point of being infantile, but that's not the real issue.

They are missing the point. Viewers aren't abandoning them because their logo isn't "edgy" enough, or because of any other aspect of their branding. They are leaving because:

  • Their line-up of shows is awful, personally they have almost nothing I'm interested in.
  • The viewing experience is terrible. Last time I tried to watch a show it was essentially saturation bombing of ads and promos, with the odd brief programme break thrown in (and that had a god-awful huge logo smeared across it). Even with the ability to fast-forward I got sick of reaching for the remote, and the viewing experience was so atrocious I gave up about half way through.
  • With Netflix, Lightbox et al on now on offer there is plenty of affordable alternatives that offer a better experience (i.e., choice, ad-free, lack of annoying "shouty" promos being repeated every 5-6 minutes etc)

Changing branding won't fix that. It won't even impact it - except as far as adding more annoying promos trumpeting their new brand will likely make the viewing experience even worse. The need to try address the core issues with their actual offering.

Otherwise, it's like telling the captain of the Titanic to forget about closing the watertight doors, and do an emergency paint job instead.

I don't think I have watched TV3 all year. Broadcast TV these days is essentially dead IMO. The only things I watch are the odd things recorded on Tivo.

I like the new logo, it's unique and cool.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
