I just heard from them.  They said I can invoke the CGA and claim the assement costs back if its found not to be my fault - how does one know if they will tell the truth? - they are going to take the machine offsite.

Unless it is a physical damage or something you have caused. They will usually cover the whole lot.

We have had all sorts of issues, on lesser washes and sometimes on the long wash, with the detergent door not opening, and finding at the end of a wash, that the tablet is sitting partially dissolved etc.

We like somethings about it, but the response when we called to discuss was horrible. They were super aggressive, basically said it was our fault, they never have faults with their gear type thing.

I was so busy at the time I didn't really have time to deal with it the way I normally would (stick my boot up their a$$es). We are just putting up with it right now.

Our 1st Bosch had a detergent drawer with a lid that slides sideways. This is a much better design than the 2nd machine that has a slide up door. The slide up lid did seem to stick using powder. After cleaning the lid and switching to tablets we haven't had any trouble. As a last resort tablets could always be put directly in the machine.

Would anyone have examples of a user caused faults/issues that would be classified as misuse.

I struggle to think of how it could have been misused.  Frequent hot washes and no fabric softener.

Out of interest, is this an i-Dos machine (auto dosing)?

Are you using liquid or powder??

No.  Its a front loader and I use the front loader powder, but about half the amount specified.

Is it possible that you washed an item of clothing that had something bad in one of the pockets?

A tube of lipstick or some food or a lump of putty or something else?

It sounds to me as though this could well be the cause of the problem and I expect that the manufacturer thinks that this may be the case.

I am not trying to accuse you but instead, I am trying to illustrate what the manufacturer may suspect.

The best thing to do is google the problem, to see if anyone else has encountered the problem, and with that model

No, I appreciate you are not accusing.  Its being going on for nearly a year, its the same brown sludge and mostly attaches itself to cotton clothing when the wash comes out.  When Bosch customer service told me to do the epsom salt washes it did disspate a bit, but has just came back.

I did google and found someone reported a the same or very similar issue and said the bearings in the machine had gone and not repairable, however Able appliances have already been in and although they did  not disassemble the machine, they ran a short cycle and said there was nothing wrong with the bearings.

I did appliance repairs for about 2.5 years (quite some years ago now), I've seen and repaired a LOT of washing machines, including Bosch. This does not sound like a warranty issue.

I cant think of a single thing in the machine that could cause this aside from washing additives or items left in clothes.
Your washing machine fills with water, which adds your additive(s), heats it, sloshes it around pumps it out. That's all it does.

As has been said, by far the most common cause is fabric softener. When it gets mixes with washing powder, usually due to accidental user contamination, it turns into a nasty light grey waxy mess (scrud) that just doesn't come out.

At this point I'd be seriously looking at what you put in the machine and how you put it in the machine.

Andrew, thanks.

I really struggle with this logic.  Fabric softener has not been used in the machine at all, yet the washing machine comes with a fabric softener compartment.  Both Able and Bosch have questioned on this topic but why put a fabric softener compartment in the machine if it ruins it.

The only thing that goes in the machine is persil front loader - its the only powder ever used.

Bosch have said that epsom salt washes should be done once a month to clean the machine, yet this is not stated on the user guide/manuals.

Also to add, after the wash is finished and the machine emptied, the drum and seal are perfectly clean.  If you take a white tissue and wipe the surface - nothing to see.

Other possibilities - check the drain pump flow. Had a friends front loader that had a blockage on the inlet side of the pump. Motor was still spinning but the pump could barely empty the machine. Result was partially dissolved soap powder, lint, etc built up in the bottom of the machine.

And what type of water do you get at your house? As some areas that have high mineral content water, it is difficult for soap powders to dissolve properly. Use rainwater if possible as rainwater has a very low mineral content. (very soft water).

Its not fabric softener on it's own, it's when it mixes with washing powder that it turns nasty.
We use softener, and it's always a bit of a battle to convince someone that it's important to not mix the two. Contamination is easy and happens regularly here.

I can't tell you what the issue is, it could still be a machine issue, but it is unlikely. It doesn't sound like anyone is trying to take you for a ride.

Does sound quite likely it's gunk sitting in the bottom of the tub. Perhaps brewing up a nice mould/bacteria soup for the next wash.
