In the last couple of weeks I have started to watch Unforgiven, Barton Fink and To Kill a Mockingbird but haven't got to the ends yet. Would like to finish them one day...

Semi Pro and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

Pretty funny but I would imagine not for everyone.

American Gangster: I really enjoyed this. Loved Denzel and Russell in the main roles, say what you will about Russell Crowe (I certainly do), but he does pull off some very impressive characters and is very good at portraying peoples idiosyncratic traits. For a 2.5hr movie it had a fast paced way of telling the story. A lot of the movies I've seen in the same vein tend to drag on in parts, this one felt quick but was full of detail. A great story about a figure in American crime that I'd never heard of.

300 - Blu-ray: Well well well, my first foray into Blu-ray movies did not disappoint! Even though it was only 720p I was still amazed at the difference in quality between HD and SD DVDs. From the opening piracy warnings to the closing credits, the crisp picture and digital sound just blew my mind. I loved the movie to begin with, saw it in the theatre and on DVD, but this was easily my favourite version - even on a measly 32" LCD. I don't pretend to like Sony, and I was an ardent HD DVD supporter for the duration of the fight...but I think I'm converted :)

Hopefully going to Prince Caspian over the coming weekend!

Just watched two tonight:

Numb: Thought it was pretty good.. Not an upbeat movie, as obvious by the plot, had a few moments of laughter though and the plot was pretty good. this was just a filler for the next movie however.

In Bruges: Wow now this was a quality movie! Had me rolling with laughter at some points, Collin Farell was on form in this movie! Is quite a dark comedy and has a fair bit of unexpected graphic violence but dont let that hold you back, excellent writing, acting and of course plot, would be the best movie ive seen in a while.. well since death at a funeral, i thought that was brilliant. Oh and the dwarf in death at a funeral is in this movie too.. coincidence?? possibly! but i think ill have to check his other movies out too!

edit: oooh just looked at the release date of in bruges for new zealand.. november 2008 ...

Had a bit of an M. Night night on Saturday:

The Happening: It's not like his other ones, in the (sixth) sense that you know what is happening right from the start. Because of that all you're really watching is people trying to get away from what is happening, and not in a very interesting way. I did like the premise behind this story, but I think the casting was terrible and the movie itself was a poor medium for telling this story. Unfortunate, but not completely unwatchable....give it a go if you like the director and his other movies.

Unbreakable: Got this from Movieshack on Blu-ray. I had not seen it for several years and had forgotten a lot of how it played out, so was very impressed yet again. It's a departure from his other films - and something that hadn't really been explored on film previously - the birth of a superhero so to speak. I love this movie and watching it on Blu-ray was very satisfying :) Highly recommended!!

I should probably mention 1408 as well....

I like John Cusak...mostly. I enjoyed Identity (a lot) and High Fidelity, but 1408 seems to be him trying to get back to his Identity glory. As far as the story goes I've seen it before. It's not really a story that's suited to film, well not this film anyway. It's been done in games - Silent Hill 4 - The Room for instance (brilliant game). I was disappointed. The story, the imagery, the art design and directing - it's all lacking. I've not read the story by Stephen King but I'm sure it's better than the film - like all his book to movie transitions, except maybe The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption - both of which are pretty much scene-for-scene in both book and film. Skip it if you haven't already been conned into renting it!

The Happening - Very average movie, did not think it was one of Mark Walbergs best ones. Story was good in theory, but in the end just a lot of running around, with a bit of a love triangle thrown in for kicks.

Kung Fu Panda - I really liked this movie! It was funny, with some pretty good underlying messages. Loved the animation too, great!

Charlie Bartlett: I didnt think it deserved the high ratings it has on imdb. Average movie with only a few laughs, plot was predictable and fairly boring. Ironman Robert Downey Jr was in it and was probably the stand out.

Chaos Theory: Good movie, i had more laughs in this one. Ryan Reynolds is the main actor (probably why the missus wanted to watch it in the first place! pffft) but he does a good job probably because he was given a decent script to work with unlike some of his other movies, worth the watch anyway.

Finished Barton Fink last night. Not a movie to watch over a period of several weeks. I now have to wonder what the hell it was I just watched.

I personaly cant watch a movie in 2 go's, i have the memory of a siv, by the time the second half came about i would have completly forgotten what happened in the first, and it wouldnt do the movie justice! May as well watch it from the start again i say. Each to there own though :)
