Taking my son and his friend to either Rotorua or Taupo every winter school holidays. We stayed in a cheap cabin in a holiday park, I had a "quiet room" to read, they were allowed PlayStation and videos at night, after we'd spent the day out and about doing various activities, including hot pools of course.

Our best Winter holiday was heading to Japan to Niseko. We had a meter of fresh powder overnight every night, ski in ski out, boot dryers/warmers, fresh seafood all the time, and when skiing from the top of the mountain to the bottom stopped for a Teppanaki meal at lunchtime one day. It was super interesting to see what food on a mountain done right was and how much better overseas facilities were. We took our then 7-month-old son with us, and my niece to look after him. Was an amazing trip.

We dont go to Winter holidays! BUT, when we drove from Grand Canyon to Louisiana (non stop as it was Thanksgivings) we went through Colorado and the mountains were awesome. Snow, white water, the typical US postcard of trees on mountainsides, and lucky buggers living in rural spots with big log cabins. Magic. Truly postcard stuff

At my age, winter holiday coming up will be warm in Hawaii. I will be joining my daughter who for many years wanted her big 50 to be Hawaii five 0. Wouldn't it be great to try out the camera to record the holiday.

I managed to escape 2 weeks of the NZ big winter freeze with a trip to Thailand for a friend's wedding.

Exploring Whakanewha Park on Waiheke with my two daughters. It was warm enough that winter to need only shorts and a t-shirt!

One New Year over on Anglesey. Just me and some close friends. One local pub, plenty of wine, women and song, and loads of snow.

No photos unfortunately.

Yep, I took my two girls to Grasstree Beach ,Nth QLD when they were 5 and 7. Camped for 2 days. August I think. There were others, but only we swam. Went to pub with my Dad, T shirt and shorts, him in a jacket and pants (he lived there)

I love heading up through the central plateau to Taupo and Rotorua. Besides the landscape, snow and inland cold there are the hot pools!

A few years ago they did the US Canada Hockey Tour.

My mate and I were obsessed with Ice Hockey, spent many weekends snowboarding but only up north, and I had never seen Dunedin.

So we did a full South Island Road Trip.  Caught the ferry from Well, drove to Christchurch, checked out the hockey there and snowboarded at Mount Hutt.  Drove to Dunedin, caught the other hockey game and took in all of the sights and sounds, went down to Invercargil to catch up with some family, drove up to Queenstown and spent a few days on the slopes there, and drove up the West coast home.

We were on a budget so we stayed in some awful places, but I checked so many things I wanted to do off in a couple of weeks so it's easily my best holiday.

Best holiday was a Christmas skiing holiday with about 10 friends in St. Anton, Austria.  We stayed in this huge monastery, we were about the only guests there!!

Escaped to the winterless north one August.  Stayed on my sister's farm, where there was plenty of warmth, and a fluffy bunny for each kid ;-)
