Rockets were banned because they were considered too dangerous, but, I think these post-ban fireworks are even more dangerous. It is just luck that no one was seriously injured in our case.

You are incorrectly conflating my views on information and physical objects. I support the free availability of information and digital content, and the availability of physical objects, but that doesn't mean I think physical objects should be free. I'd actually have minimal issue with fireworks being taxed to cover those increased costs, if the trade off was that they were freely available to anyone over 18 year round.

Worlds gone PC mad.

I enjoy Guy Fawkes, is a bit of fun with family and friends - long as you're sensible, nothing should go wrong. When else do you get to play with explosives ? :)

Its just a few screwing it up for everyone else.

As a kid, we had more powerful fireworks etc than whats available these days, yet noone screamed about it then. Was just a right of passage having double happys going off in your hand occasionally and accidentally setting fire to the neighbors hedge :)

I actually think extra cost would likely reduce the issues.. There is a swathe of cheap crap fireworks out there, and people only have a small window to purchase them. If they were normalised for year round purchase and pricier, I suspect you'd have less issues with idiots doing dumb things.

Many don't light. They go up and right instead of up. Given the massive regulations for safety we have yet we can set off a poorly and cheaply manufactured explosive, which have high failure rates. My idea of a park with supervision is sound, kids would like that. or a display. Not hard really

I recall that, but I also recall the photos of injuries, fires, blind people the next day.

Yes, you were cool as you squeezed the DH between two fingers and lit it! :-)

I don't buy any fireworks nor participate in their use.

I hate how many animals are hurt and scared out of their minds by this every year.

Lighting poorly manufactured explosives in densely populated areas full of fire fuel, is slightly different from the risks posed by your car.

Or cut the end off your red Po-Ha and turn them into matchbox car rockets.. Or perhaps that was just me. Lost a few fingertips in my time

Didn't even go out for some high vantage arty long exposure photography this year - even skipped the main display that often gives only 1-2 chances a year at.

Found it quite tame for once with less TV ads (noted there appeared to be radio and print only this year even for the warehouse?..) Countdown not doing them and people possibly being more conscious of their neighbors

Bar the muppets doing it in windy places un-prepared and causing scrub fires (or firing out of moving cars)

Always preferred to go watch a few grand of someone elses money go up and feel the pressure waves. Rather than spend anything on things they pass off for personal use. May was well light a $20 note and stand in awe watching it melt.
