It's pretty awful.

Prison is not meant to be a holiday camp. Personally, I cannot fathom how people can think that people who have been convicted of serious or repeat offending deserve the same rights as law abiding citizens. Bring back hard labour and the rope.

I am pleased that New Zealands decision makers are far more sensible than the suggestions  being put forward in this thread

What's your solution to the current situation?

Provide clean water and sanitary living conditions. Same as is required, under threat of prosecution, for animals.

Animals don’t choose to steal, assault, burgle, murder etc.

Animals are more entitled to decent conditions.

This thread has some pretty disappointing comments.

What they are asking for doesn't seem unreasonable to me. The conditions there sound sickening. It's not meant to be a holiday camp, but brown drinking water, clothes unwashed for months and being fed next to communal toilets among other things.....

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I object to a single dollar of tax money being spent on anything but keeping them away from decent people.

The comments are daft but predictable.

This attitude, completely lacking in humanity, is a significant contributor to the problem.

It doesn't sound unreasonable to me either. I get the feeling we are only hearing one side of the story.

I find it hard to believe the brown drinking water is an on going problem, no more so than might happen if a pipe burst in your suburb. Clothes unwashed for months, I also find that hard to believe.

Out of a total of 750 prisoners there was I believe 19 who took part in the riots initially with the number dropping to 16.  (19 = 2.5%) If the problems were as bad as has been stated I'd have expected a much larger "uprising". Something doesn't quite add up.

There is no doubt conditions could be improved, but I rather suspect there is more going on here.

I can't keep my mouth shut on this any more. Your comments are absolutely appalling. I'd sooner see you deported back where you came from than any of your disgusting attitudes toward prisoners be even given a moment's thought by those tasked with managing a system which is intended primarily to rehabilitate, not arbitrarily punish.

Clean drinking water, clean clothes, food, and sanitation are not optional things you can withhold because you don't like people. They're basic human rights. And the value of a society is judged on how it treats its least fortunate.

There are some here that need to grow up. Don’t reply to me as I won’t respond to the BS
