I hope they catch the thugs that did this as soon as possible and they get what they deserve.

They have no authority to physically prevent anything. They are there as a visual deterrent.

@Wombat1 in a decent society they should be able to but the reality is ....

1. Their profits will be taking a big hit.
2. Insurance will become difficult for them to sustain.
3. People are going to get seriously hurt or worse.

Fair points to all.... going to "normal" store layout with a single entrance/exit point, will make them less attractive, especially in a mall situation. Rarely hear of Pascoes etc being hit in malls.

While there are ways around it, "breakproof" glass for their cabinets would help as well..... if someone has got to spend 15s bashing at a single cabinet vs 3s, it will change their mindset a bit I think.....

Its a shame we now live in a society where everything has to be locked up.......

Eva888: I wonder why they don’t use a special film on the glass cases or make them acrylic which you can’t just smash and grab. Even using glass with plastic in between would make it difficult.

Polycarbonate cases instead of glass would be difficult for them to smash into.

I know your post was well intentioned to start some discussion, but that's just victim blaming. Any retail shop should not have to lock themselves up like fort knox. How about we finally deal with the causes of this crime and some consequences for the offenders.

Well over a year of daily+ violence/attacks, robberies, smashes and grabs. If only we had an organization overseen by an elected governing body we could bring to bear who would be responsible for preventing crime and putting an end to this madness....

Is it a cure? It’s catch and release with people that age. The police are not the problem, it’s what happens afterwards.
