Thanks for all the replies, I'm not alone in that I'll probably move to another webhosting company very soon!

At the the of the day web hosting is very much a case of getting what you pay for.

I signed up with hostgator and will be migrating everything once it comes back.
I would seriously look at moving and get your money back if you only signed up recently.

We live and learn, and this one will be down to learning :-)

This is a case of pay what you get.

If you are not dependant on hosting in NZ I would recommend something like Rackspace in the USA. However we currently pay about $400 pm with webdrive cloud VPS system, which has so far proven to be the best hosting we have ever had, except the low MB/transfer and expensive SAN storage.

I use them too (recently joined) and got this email1.5 hours ago after nagging:

"Technicians are working on the problem, they managed to get one server back up (hence I can reply to your email now) and are still working on the other three,
hopefully they will be back up soon, as the NSP technicians are also involved."

Glad to see I'm not alone. Hoping they get it resolved soon and I'll be looking at shifting the website elsewhere.

Out of curiosity what attracted all of you people to this service? Just the dirt cheap pricing?

Was going to ask the same thing. Didn't anyone see the guy on fair go a years or so ago. People should be prepared to pay a reasonable fee if they want it to be a good service.

barbarino: My site www.intiques.co.nz is still down. ?not sure what to do, it has been nearly 24 hours now. ?you would think they would at least send out regular email updates. ? not sure what to do, I only joined webhostingnz.com a week ago. ?A lot of users will probably shift their hosting as a result of this so maybe i should stay sith them, might end up with my own dedicated server. ?I really had no complaints with their ease of setup and service before this. ?However this is not just a brief outage. ?Ok i am looking for some recommendations now. ?

I like using robtex.com - http://www.robtex.com/dns/intiques.co.nz.html#summary

I have been using www.webhostingnz.com for over a year now and this is only the second time I experienced this problem. The previous one was ± 6-8 weeks ago. I found their service quite good and they are quite helpful.
I ill have to change though if this becomes a regular occurence.

well yes!   I cant really justify paying 100x what I do now, as SteveON does, and for a couple of years or so it has been good value.

The lack of telephone support IS a concern, though it's obvious that for $4 or so a month we cant really expect much in the way of support.

I guess outages like this do tend to make us wonder whether a few more bux per month might give us a better handle on the situations like this, though.

SteveON would be paying for a dedicated server, not shared web hosting, so is not  a comparison. Good shared webhosting can be sourced for between $15-$30 per month. Many hosts don't provide phone support, as they are online companies,  I know one that does, who charge per minute if you want to call them. However you don't need phone support for webhosting from my experience.
