Just as well SBW is a champion and there is no match fixing in boxing by the marketers, promotors.

Just as well....

Where is the Tua match? It will never happen as SBW would be drilled in round one, not so good for marketers

I know this is never going to happen but just once I would love to see these sports prima-donnas who decide they can also box get taken apart by a real boxer.

The thing is these fights are boxing for people who don't actually like boxing. It's about $BW being a hero and Jaime Ridge giving him a kiss at ringside.

I say we all feed into the media frenzy in the hope that $BW gets so confident he demands a 'real' fight in Vegas where he will be the unknown and get the tar knocked out of him by a real boxer.

Or we could just ignore the whole thing like Sir Bob Jones.

SBW has absolutely NO boxing credentials at all. He has fought no one with any fitness or skill. Unfortuantely this is what some boxing divisions have become, nothing more than glorified stage shows. I can't believe some people were silly enough to actually pay to watch that shambles.

This pretty much sums it up.

Whilst I agree that it's all media hype I find it odd that people expect SBW to fight people like Tua or Cameron so early in his career.  If you look at Tua's record he didn't fight anyone of and recognition until he had around 20 wins under his belt, same goes for most pro boxers, you build a record fighting bums, get some experience and then up the quality of the opponent.

SBW has elected to go straight to pro rather than establish himself as an amateur first which probably makes sense due to already having a high profile built up from other sports.  May as well make hay while the sunshines in the pro arena.

Anyway, some NZ'ers seem to have a strange tall poppy syndrome. Why shouldn't SBW be allowed to box as well as play rugby? The NZRU condone his boxing and they're his employers, people obviously pay to watch his boxing (not me might I add) and he seems to be enjoying himself.  If the promoters drum up a "NZ Title Fight" involving an american and people buy into it then it's hardly SBW's fault, I'm sure he just wants to fight to the best of his ability against people he has a good chance of beating until he has built up some decent experience.  Will he be a world champion? highly unlikely but so what?  He's a world cup winning AB, won a NRL championship and had a crack at boxing - to me that's impressive.....damn impressive.

SBW will be back in the NRL next year when his ban is lifted and the salary cap has doubled.  He'll be removed from NZ'ers sight and hopefully we can all step back and appreciate him for his athletic gifts rather than the hype drummed up by Khoder and co.

Just my 2 cents :-)

How does that differ from the fight that just occurred? Tua isn't even in his weight class is he?

Also in what world would it be a fair fight, Tua is a full time boxer.

Good grief. Bob Jones hardly "ignored" it, he had plenty to say and looked stupid for it, since by his own admission he didn't even watch the fight. I like BJ but he is just plain wrong making comments without watching.

Most people felt SBW was going to have the tar beaten from him, and to his credit he turned the table. No way was Tillman going throw the fight. Did you even see his disdain for SBW?

People need some perspective and to stop hating, I am not SBW biggest fan but he is a pretty decent athlete.

SBW is superb at laying on the big hits in league, hopefully he does it again soon.

If any players fought like this nowadays they'd get massive bans and fines, much like Blair vs Stewart did and their fight wasn't a patch in this one.

SBW is being marketed very well and I don't disagree with the nay sayers at all in this. In my opnion he didn't do much for the AB's except get a tick in the box for his CV and satisfy AB's sponsors. Yes he is a good athlete but I think he has succumbed to thinking he is great and he ins't, yet.

I for one hope he goes back to league as he didn't do much for rugby

Dyed in the wool Rugby fans hate him cos he came from League.
Hard core League fans hate him cos we walked out on his club.
Boxing fans hate him cos, well, he cant really box.
Others hate him cos he went Muslim.
Some cos he is managed by Koder Nasser and mates with Antony Mundine.
Guys hate him cos chicks love him.

And on the last point, I would love guys to hate me for the same reason :)
