what caught me out was trusting the "estimated delivery date" of 2 - 9th of november.. if I had known it was going to delayed by this much I would have paid a little extra over the aliexpress standard shipping for an order i placed back in October.. my last update was "departing country of origin" on the 2nd of nov.. sigh

I think from my history was about 25 days after that it arrived

You do have to wonder if de-prioritising to either boat or not normal airmail bag

does AliExpress standard shipping even go from the same Warehouse or are they just taking our funds and telling the seller to send on whatever they care

Day 15, departing country, 5 days after leaving port
Day 41 in nz

Does suggested possibly coshared with a boat doesn't it

Aye those durations do lead to that hypothesis. Even accounting for wonky air freight routes right now, it shouldn't take a month to go from China to Auckland.

ger0in:

Why would you buy it from Russia?

I've bought stuff from Russia before, mainly because the Wehrmacht left a lot more stuff behind in Russia than they did in China.

k1w1k1d:

What is going to happen in Jan/Feb when all the buyers start asking for refunds for undelivered parcels?

Already happening now, here's the form letter I've been using for a bunch of Ali and eBay shipments:

The item was shipped via Sunyou, they provide fake tracking for items that are never shipped, once they appear to get to the destination country the fake tracking stops. There are many posts about this scam online. Sunyou are a fraudulent shipping company that doesn't actually ship goods unless its sent as registered mail, tracking code SYRM rather than regular SY.

The idea is that sellers will eventually realise that they shouldn't be using Sunyou for shipping...

I've got three orders I'm waiting for, all ordered 4 - 11 October. All three now say they arrived in NZ between 16 - 28 October. All shipped via "Cainiao Super Economy Global". I'm doubting if I'll see them before Christmas.

Reading all the responses in this thread makes me worried about how long it will take for my AliExpress package to arrive.

Purchased 25th Nov - I paid for AliExpress standard shipping as it was the cheapest option (est 13-20 days shipping). I was given the option of the AliExpress premium shipping, DHL or FedEx but those were real expensive.

Tracking details so far:

  • 2020.11.27 23:30 (GMT-7): Departed country of origin
  • 2020.11.26 21:02 (GMT-7): Shipment accepted by airline
  • 2020.11.26 21:02 (GMT-7): Shipment left country of origin warehouse

  • 2020.11.26 17:13 (GMT-7): Shipment at country of origin warehouse
  • 2020.11.26 15:57 (GMT-7): Shipment dispatched

It departed from Singapore and I can see NZ post have created a tracking number for it on their end.

fingers crossed it arrives within that 20 day timeframe but I'm not getting my hopes up. (or maybe I am subconsciously 😬)

The parcel I bought that had an NZ Post number generated came in about two weeks, a good third of that it was rattling around NZ Post's facilities in Auckland and CHCH. The other one is in the wind.

I see - I am hoping I'll get lucky and it'll arrive before Christmas or New Years. NZ Post has had this status: "Singapore, Departure from country of origin. Your item is in transit to New Zealand" for a while. The tracking number starts with LP and ends with SG. Fingers crossed!

One thing I noticed... a small parcel from AliExpress showed up as "with Last Mile Carrier" a couple of days ago. The odd thing was that the timestamp was 2 Dec. So the status change was back-dated about a week.

I've read on Reddit that they are a package consolidation on-shipper. They stockpile packages and then send them in a bag when cheap freight flights are available. Some people said it took months to receive stuff from them due to COVID reducing the cheap (i.e. unused space on) air freight availability. :/

I'd missed this thread; I rarely use AliExpress but I ordered something on 17 Oct that hasn't turned up yet (standard shipping). I now see that Amazon has a similar item for a similar price; I wish I'd looked there in the first place!

This is now showing as 'accepted by last mile carrier' on Ali's site. It looks like we're getting there!

My AliExpress Standard Shipping parcel has just been delivered.

54 Days from pickup to delivery. (For a reference - 14 days last time from the same supplier pre pandemic)
