TLD:

A lot more believable than the Tom Cruise movies, but it was annoying that Reacher — now played by Alan Ritchson who is as big as a house — kept being close to having his ass whipped by diminutive bad guys two thirds his size and half his weight.  In the books he never comes close to having a hard time beating half a dozen big guys at the same time.  [minor SPOILER] In one scene Reach is repeatedly smashed about the ribs and the side of his face with a large crowbar, but when he eventually prevails he shows no sign of the broken ribs and dislocated jaw he should have had.  Lee Child makes his obligatory cameo in the last episode (I think).  With all the money he must have made from the books you'd think he could afford enough meat pies to put some flesh on his bones.  He looks like a skeleton.

True. In the books the fights describe how he uses the opponents force, direction and speed against them - by simply turning and lifting the knee, or dodging at the last minute, spinning and hitting someone's heads.

In the series, he gets kicked a lot.

I've been watching Raised by Wolves (Neon) and the second season of Resident Alien (TVNZ OD)

Enjoying both, but am hating the dripfeed nature of the new season of Resident Alien. Once a week is not enough in this day and age.

Also - have been watching The Great on Neon. Completely bonkers. But great fun. On the last episode of season 1. Good fun, if a little...risqué.

Man, im really not feeling this new season but will push through

Also, did their special effects budget get cut or something.. some of the effects look like they were made using technology from the late 90s, they're terrible!

I irl said w..t..f.. at that scene from s02e01 where they travelled to the colony.. had to double check my stream quality hadn't bugged out

Over the years I have only read a couple of Lee Child books. I have always sort of classed these type of books like 'no brainer' 'airport trash' and leave it at your holiday accommodation for the next person to read.

Have never seen the Tom Cruise portrayal of Reacher.

Having said that, we finished the first season last night. Apart from a few holes already mentioned, we enjoyed the first series. At least the actor playing Reacher approximately matches Lee Child character height/build as opposed to, I suppose, Tom Cruise portrayal. (6'2" vs  5'6") [Reacher is 6'5"].

It was enjoyable no brainer. I will definitely watch the next season.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Finished Reacher S1 on Prime.

Overall I really enjoyed it. I am not 100% gelling with Alan Ritchson as Reacher yet, he has potential, but he still seems a bit young, and pretty and lacks the grit I have in my mind for Reacher.

Having said that, I think it was a very first season. Casting was pretty good overall.

Interesting you mention that, occasionally there were very distracting moments I found the same thing. He doesn't really do the thoughtful look very... intelligently...

It's his first season, I suspect he will get better as will the series. I hope they keep many things the same though, I did find it very accessible and enjoyable overall.

I hope Jack Reacher stays on Prime, as I’m sure I sure Paramount in end credits.

Just watched episode 2, and enjoying it at moment.

Reacher S1E01-04 (Prime) - 8/10

Many others have commented about this show, and I'll echo much of what has been said.  Generally, I'm really enjoying it.  It definitely works better as a series than as a feature-length movie.  Having read quite a few of the Reacher books, they are pretty formulaic, and often dismissed as "airport trash" - but I enjoy reading them.  They will never be mistaken for highbrow works of art, but they are entertaining, and the show has done a very good job of translating this from the page to the screen.  The pacing and development of the plot feels very faithful to the book.

Alan Ritchson is certainly better than Tom Cruise as Reacher.  He has the physical presence nailed down, but my only real objection is that he is a little robotic.  In the episodes I've seen so far he walks like a robot, he sits like he's being held up by a steel pole - which I think they were trying to pass off as military discipline, but comes off as looking like he's being remote controlled.  One of the things that comes across in the books is his decisiveness and bluntness.  He doesn't dither, he's a straight shooter, and for the most part the TV show pulls that off.  But there are a few scenes where he says "No" to what is being asked, and then he stiffly walks off.  I'd like to see his acting bridge the gap between wooden and precise; Reacher is character who is very deliberate and determined, but that doesn't mean he can't move or act with fluidity.  His facial expressions are similarly flat - in my imagination, the Reacher in the books is more gruff and growly.  But these are minor quibbles.  I'm happily digesting an episode a day, and would be happy to watch a further adaptation of another Reacher book.

You've done a great job of summarizing Ritchson as Reacher I think.

I think he will be better in season two. He would be one of the most difficult characters to pull off given how popular he is.

Just finished watching The Book of Boba Fett. Really enjoyed.

If you're watching The Mandalorian, make sure you watch before the next season.

Agree about the dry humour, though there were a few moments in episode 4 that made me laugh out loud (literally, and I'm watching alone as well) which doesn't happen often.

I forgot to add about the supporting cast.  I think it's been well cast.  I read The Killing Floor a few years ago now, but I think they got the key characters right.  Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe and Malcolm Goodwin as Finlay are perfect, and it's fun to watch some familiar faces show up (Bruce McGill, who played Jack Dalton in Macgyver, as Mayor Teale, and Harvey Guillen - from What We Do In The Shadows - as Jasper the pathologist).

Trigger point.

A UK based drama/crime series about a bomb squad.

Watchable but so unrealistic.

First episode with the bomb robot scene all I could think of was the IT Crowd and that bomb robot scene.

5/10 at the most.
